I had to. I hate snakes and eels are pretty much snakes.. Never thought I'd get one in the tank until i saw this little blue eyed babe. Had to do it with the 25% off and the credit I had at big als in Vaughan. Will post more tank pictures once he settles in the tank and is out and about more. Have 0 experience with eels and this guy is in my sps system. Any tips or advice is much appreciated. Had an open top tank so right after I got him in I secured the top of the tank with screen and Velcro. Not crazy about how it has effected my light penetration so if someone has a lead on some different screening that he can't fit through but allows more light in, let me know. Otherwise its coming off if sps growth is effected and ill take my chances with a dried up eel.

That's too funny. I was actually talking with one of the managers at that store who will remain nameless and we were speaking about that exact eel. Congratulations that's a great looking little guy. I'm not sure exactly how big he is but I know the white egg crate is fairly common and I believe there is quarter inch screening or half-inch screening that pets and ponds sells online. I have dealt with them quite a bit and they're shipping is very timely and prices are good.
If you change your mind on him and need a good home let me know.
For my tank are used to build your own screening kit for windows from the Home Depot and cut it to size.
Works well for keeping my jumpers and wonders in the water.
Cheers

Ask jt for a quote if the clear screen is too big of a hole I'm sure he could stagger two layers it would definitely be a lot better for your lights. Plus it looks good as well. My tank has always been open top and my snowflake eel has been in there for a few years but if they start to get hungry they will start to search for food. Just don't add any new shrimp or they will become food. Any that were there before him should be fine.

A well fed eel just slowly mosies around checking out everything. If you notice him extra active he is probably hungry other than that you will usually just see a head poking out somewhere. I personally like eels they have a cool personality but is a shocker when they nab at you lol.
