Ato Frequency Issue

Hey everyone,

I have an annoying issue I have a 60 gallon cube and a Tunze osmolator nano 3152 on the sump. It clicks in every few minutes and runs for a few seconds any thoughts?

Could it be to small?
I have a half inch of cardboard between the magnet and the unit.

Mine does the same thing on a 20 gallon. Runs every 20 minutes on average for about 2 seconds

So it doesn't bother you?

Mine is like three feet from my head. So maybe it's just me

Mine runs frequently but probably not more then 2x per hour. I have had no saline issues since I installed it so I am willing to put up with it.

It almost seems like it has a timer setup so it kicks the pump off ever 20 minutes and will run like a half a cup of water and that's how it works. Unless rapid evaporation it never really works as intended. Or maybe that's exactly how it should work if you have a nano tank 20 gallons or under. Then you would want it to top up tiny increments. Mine goes off like ever 5 minutes :(

oh no..you have 3152? I would stay away from it. There are so many bad reviews out there for this particular model.

Here is my thread on TFT about 3152. Since then, I returned it and switched to SMART Ato and not a single issue at all. Love my SMART ato.

Where does your top up water pump into? I found having it fill the return chamber directly gave me the most consistent levels, but I did find it runs more frequently. Try having the output go into your display if possible. It will allow a little bit of overfill as the water makes its way into the return chamber, but the pump will run less frequently...
Also make sure the potentiometer for the pump speed is set appropriately for your tank size/head height. Turning it down might help - It sounds like your filling the return chamber pretty quickly, and the pump is designed to run for up to ten minutes before safety shut off. If there's an issue, your going to be pumping way more water than necessary into your tank/onto the floor.

potentiometer? This could be my issue since I didn't know I had one. Where is it located in the control box (splitter unit) were you wire up the pump to the power? is this were jumpers are set?

Just a thought, did you change the jumper setting when you installed it? it changes the max dosing time from 1.8min to 3min for larger tanks. Take a look at pg 14 of this pdf https://www.tunze.com/fileadmin/gebrauchsanleitungen/x3152.8888.pdf
I fail to read manuals unless absolutely necessary and even then I will bitch and moan and then look stuff up on Google.
I will try changing the jumper and see if that fixes the issue. (Never said I was a smart or rational)

I have the ATO in the sump I moved it over to a larger compartment and still same issue. I might have to try the senor in the display tank but I have some serious flow going on and thought that this would cause more issues than solve.

Thanks everyone

If you are running an overflow then the level in the DT will not change until the sump or rear sections of an aio run dry...not likely what you want...slow the pump speed as much as possible (minimum rate) to work properly the sensor needs to be in the return section but make that as large as possible if there is any flexibility...
Running frequently but for very small volumes could also be the sign of a swollen prostate...lol

My bad, completely missed that you have the nano...I have the 3155 and had to play around with the dose rate to get the frequency I was looking for...the nano uses jumpers for that so that may be your ticket as previously mentioned.
Good luck,

Correct.
DT level should not change ever!
Having the ATO fill another chamber may help a bit.
Could put a couple elbows on return line. Slight reduction in flow rate may be enough.

Update, the second pump failed on the weekend either Saturday or Sunday I've been in training for work so busy. What's my best option?

If I get the apex classic ?
Do I need a ATO or you just buy the breakout box and this replaces the need for an ATO?

If the apex doesn't have that capability what's the ATO to get that will intergrate the best with the apex.
