Hello fellow reefers! I need your help . 90 gallon tank. Specs are 4 ft by 2 ft deep by 18 . Tank needs lights that can penetrate the depth and make my corals flourish and beautiful eye pop . Is there a good 4 t5 bulb combo that could do the neccessary damage? Or am I better of scrapping the fixture and just going straight led? Which led has the best specs I Would need and for good price? Thx y'all. Keep reefing!

4x2x2 is a 120gal BTW, 90 is 18" deep 24" high.

What do you want to keep is the big question... If it is the 120 with a 2x4 footprint to cover you will need an 8 x 54watt t5 fixture to have SPS thrive plus maybe a strip or two of royal blue led's for pop. If you goal is LPS and softies a couple of China box led's will do the job perfectly and the cost will be offset quickly by avoiding the expensive and frequent bulb changes the t5's will require. Turn the same fixtures sideways and add one or two more and SPS would be no problem as well...adding a couple of t5's to supplement the spectrum of the led's would be the ultimate in growth/colour balanced with cost effectiveness.

As with anything the price/prestige (though not necessarily effectiveness) goes up as far as you want to spend from there...

i love my LED's but im also soft/lps

It lowered my tank temp a good 4-5'c when i switched over

payback is pretty quickly too

Cons : setting them up to the right light intensity can be difficult // I hear led's are heavy on PAR

Thx I just fixed the measurements I put 24 inches by accident. I'd ke to grow everything if possible. But that being said I currently do best with zoas and brain favias. No luck with montis or leathers

For the 18" you would need 6 x 54 t5's but now that led's can be had so inexpensively they are well worth the investment to avoid the endless bulb replacement...
