Well after alot of thinking... i still havent decided what i want to do lol. Im stuck between taking this 180 and doing a freshwater planted tank or just a beautiful cichlid tank...since i dont trust the tank to be holding 1000s of dollars in reef related livestock and equipment lol. That or its gotta be stripped down and thrown out since i cant sell it. What do you guys think...anyone have experience with big planted tanks??what would i have to look into, lights i have. Thanks,
Riley

Loosing corals would be horrible, but if you do not trust it with that, then I wouldn't trust it with 180 gallons of water either way. That is a lot of damage to repair in your house if a seam going is your concern. Could probably sell it noting that it needs to be resealed or have it resealed/reseal it yourself

^My thoughts exactly. 180gals of water is the same risk either as a reef or a FW system.

I personally don't see the point in having a planted tank considering you're going to have to spend decent money on a large system like that for lights and possibly a Co2 system as well.

IMO, why spend all that money when you could just go reef? But that's just me. I've done planted systems in the past and in my eyes they don't even come close to the enjoyment of a reef. Why go through all the trouble and money to maintain a planted system when you're always going to look at it and say "Man! I wish it was a reef!"

Just my 2 cents

Yea but if it's either that or throwing it out something is better than nothing.
Heck to someone who could build tanks in their basement they could cut it up or even but a 180g together

It's quite the dilemma, Keep it, sell it, Reef, Fresh water. I think if it were me I'd sell it for what ever even if it's 100 bucks and move on. I bought a tank once, a 90 GL Starrphire and really nice stand but it needed sealing, After looking at it in the garage for 5 months I sold it as a reptile tank for 100 bucks. I just chalked it up to another stupid mistake. And moved on.

I obtained a 125 gal with metal stand had a couple leaks and top and bottom trim had about 5 splits clean through on each. Not recommending this to anyone as forgetting a step would lead to imminent disaster. I used 5 minute epoxy and filled all the splits full and fanned it over the front surface to help hold. I then stripped out all the old silicone determined all seams except bottom edge were structurally sound. Removed front pane and sealing silicone inside tank (leaving silicone between panes) i then wiped with acetone and green sos pad a couple times, this allowed new silicone to bond properly as it wont stick to residue.... has been quite some time now and is holding just fine..... gotta admit the first month wasnt the best for sleep but now am fine and confident
