Hello everyone, has anyone used a mirror back tank before? Does the mirror irritate the fish? I thought it would be really neat to set up as a reef with a few fish. Can the mirror back be drilled for bulk head fittings? Or do I have to use a hob overflow? Any input or advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

I would say that sooner or later the mirror will get green algae and coralline on it. Another surface to clean? No thanks! :)

I noted that new fish in QT, with bare bottom or clean sides (like a mirror) started to get curious to the "other side" and sometime trying in fighting the clone. It could add some stress for some species.

If the mirror glass is not tempered, then it can be drilled. If you go that way, please make sure you clean the mirror's metallic deposit around the bulkhead. If it gets in contact with water, it could poison your tank.

Thank u for the input. My first reaction was I didnt like it. But now I'm thinking to me it can be asthetically pleasing but I'd rather the fish be healthy n not stressed. I havent set it up yet but the 50$ price tag with wooden stand I wasn't gonna turn it down. I guess if I have it drilled, I will do the back bottom. I will be setting it up in the next few weeks. I will post pics.

Thats what I thought about mirror is its brittle. The back 2 panels look like regular mirror. Now I'm getting nervous about if it's gonna burst when I fill it.
