I asked Ripley's Aquarium the other day what salt they use and this was there answer.
Hi Mike,

Thank you for your inquiry.

We make our own salt water from scratch. We do not by a pre-mixed product. Our recipe includes all of the major and minor salts as well as trace elements found in sea water. This allows us to better control the quality of the end result.

Thanks again,

I thought for sure I was going to see Instant Ocean.

wow, they must have a bunch of chemist on staff.. I have never been there but, different locations have different " ingredients" in the water, what do they use for their base. I wonder if they ever mix species together from different area's..I think that it would be interesting to get a peek at their " recipe"

No chemists required...as she said it is just a recipe to follow like any other industrial batching process.

Trying to add trace minerals in the volumes we use is tricky but when the batch size means a "trace" element quantity is a 5kg (or 50kg)bag....it gets much easier.

In this region, most large volume users start with good old Goderich salt (regular loads go to Niagara falls...not sure about TO..)....Although there are facilities that supply high volume custom blends as well for specialized uses.
