I bought an Acrylic Tank from another member on this site and am very happy with the upcoming build, hopefully it'll be my last build

I hope to get the tank in the next few weeks, I'm not in a big hurry because I won't be putting water in it until I move in the spring.ya I know, we will see.
The tank isn't drilled so I have to put in an overflow and put a sump in it with all the plumbing, I'm going to use a 35 gl as the sump, 36x12x18, a remote fuge, that'll drain into the return area of the sump, I have a 24x12x24 high, there's a pane of glass that splits the tank in two so 2 tanks 12x12x24, one will be the fuge and the other the top of water for the sump, I have some equipment picked up for the tank such as 2x QP900 for flow along with a RW16 dialled back of course, I'll probably put the RW in the middle under the overflow pointed straight out and set it on a low wide setting, for a return pump I have a Jabeo Dcp 5000, I'm looking to get 1000 gl an hour and there shouldn't be any problem finding the sweet spot with the DC pump, my lighting will be 2x T5HO 6 bulb units placed about 10 inches off the water in a wooden top that I need to make, I don't anticipate any problems. The skimmer will be a SWC extream 150, I have two reactors to run GFO and Carbon, a heater or two an ATO and I'm set.

Some questions that I do have are about the tank and cleaning it. Can I use a typical glass cleaning magnet, I don't want to scratch it at all if possible, any help would be appreciated, O yes I forgot to mention, I have 130 pounds of rock and will be purchasing new substrate, what's the most popular out there for a 6 ft tank with medium to low flow.

I'll try to do a build with lots of pics now that I've down loaded Tap Talk.

Ah yes...glass cleaning magnets. I have a lot of experience with those. I used to have a nice ass tank that was 60x24x24. It got ruined by my cousin's little kids with a magnet scraper. A rock got stuck underneath the pad and scraped it like zorro with his saber. I have polished and polished to no avail. I have polished it so much that the inside panel looks noticeably concave and still the scratch remains. So uh...be wary of unattended kids. Btw. does anyone want a tank?

Sorry to hear that, for what ever reason kids gravitate to the magnet cleaners, I was sitting in my recliner next to my tank when a friend dropped by with her younger brother, he walked up to the tank, took a look and I thought ya it's nice isn't it, I glanced away and when I looked back here he had his little mitts on the magnet cleaning the glass and a shudder went through me, thank goodness it was the end panel and I didn't want to over react but inside a scene transformed in my head of this 12 year old brat being lined up for a firing squad.

Why do they have to touch? Just look, smile and back the frig away. These kids know not too touch OMG I've become my father, this is serious. Lol

One trick with magnetic cleaners is to slice a ~2mm thick sheet of Magic Eraser and put on the west side. It will clog fast with algae debris and you have to since it out. Use the original as there is no scent additives injected into the foam centre. If you have a scented one, slice it in half lengthwise parallel to the wide side and you will see 2 dabs of something.

The algae magnet I used for 2"&3" acrylic had a coarse and fine weave plastic mesh bag that the west side is inserted into. So a double layer of the plastic pot scrubbing rolls should work...all depends on pane thickness and magnet size.

Agree with wtac. It's also worth putting a piece of microfiber cloth under the dry side as the felt is thin and the plastic will scratch the acrylic as well and can pick up fine grit.
