Save yourself the money and skip the vertex. That company has yet to prove anything beyond what it's competition has. Well maybe except that they can fool people into believing their products are superior only because they have high prices and fancy packaging.

I've only ever used TLF reactors. Only issue I had was that there rubber elbows changed quality or material at some point and would actually develop a crack along the seam.... TLF admitted to the problem/issue, apologized, send me 10 new elbows, and as far as I can tell they have since fixed this issue. This might seem like a small step forward for a company but unfortunately it might just be one of the biggest I've ever seen from a reefing company. two thumbs up for TLF!

Nitrates I really don't test. I do 20% water changes every 7-10 days. My algae is only on the back glass and it's way better since I got the skimmer 6 weeks ago. I had a RO 150.

I'm doing my testing tomorrow so can update the readings.

I feed flake and frozen my sis. Nori 1-2x per week.

Get a mj1200, yes. You may have to choke it down, but it helps having the extra push available for really full reactors or busting clumps loose.

MJ1200 at 65 percent ish tumbles this really well:

However i completely removed the bottom plate, runs better. Just shut the valve before turning off the pump lol

I would use about 650 to 700ml on a 180g system. So about an inch fron the top. You would start with 200 ish and add between 50 to 100ml per week to avoid shock from sudden nitrate drop, overskimming, and diatom or cyano outbreaks. Anyone feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

And then I can get rid of gfo?

This is where the testing comes in. Observations are good too but only when combined with testing IMO.....atleast until you get to know your tank more.
In order to get your nitrate and po4 values (or any parameter for this matter) to where you want there is really no other option than to test. Let's see those phosphate and no3 readings :)

Exactly. I restarted GFO after phos hit 0.09, two weeks after shutting it down. I like it at 0.03.

Whatever route you choose for pellets, do your research.....there's tons of info out there :) I've never used pellets but if I was going to then I'd probably start with no more than half the recommended amount and slowly add more while testing and observing my tank. I don't see how one could go wrong with adding too little of bio pellets to their system from the start....

It can cause some nasty nasty cyano if you start with too much
+1 for testing constantly. Everyones tanks will have different needs based on livestock, size, waterchange frequency, rock, substrate, and other filtration being used. There is no one clear cut method for this hobby.

Mag is usually at 1350. I guess it's being used because of the higher calcium. Typically my alk is 9.3 calcium is 450. First week with kalkwasser
