OK ... I've gotten to this point with freshwater tanks before but it doesn't take as long. I took over a reef tank last August and I've had my ups and downs with it. But I'm finally at that moment.

I haven't done a water change for a week. I just cleaned the glass today and besides the coralline algae that I need to scrape off the water is CRYSTAL clear. Almost like I could drink it. I'm sure many of you that have been running tanks for a while know what I mean. In fact every time that I look at the tank I can't believe that it looks that good with CFL bulbs that are far past their prime. (LED's coming soon!)

I'd take a pic but not only am I embarrassed about the coralline algae I don't think my cell phone would do it justice. It's almost like a different dimension or something. Please tell me that somebody else has noticed this in their tanks and it's not just the beer and whisky. LMAO.

Dave.

Lol, coral line algee is something to be proud of !! , my LR has a lot on it it means your system is really settling in , it sucks when it's in your glass lol, but you can't control where she grows . But yes crystal clear water is great but if you have to many fish that slap the sand all around it isn't easy to see clear water lol

It's the coralline algae on the front glass that I haven't scraped off yet. The rest of the glass is covered in it but I recently acquired a pincushion urchin so I'm sure he'll take care of some of it.

But I'm referring to that point where the water just looks pure. Not just clean or clear but has that look like the tank is finally stable. It's almost like you can see right through the tank. (No I haven't been smoking anything. LOL) In freshwater tanks you can usually get to that point in about 3 months or so. I guess it just takes a bit longer for saltwater.

I did try to take a pic last night but as expected it didn't look nearly as good. I'll post some newer pics once my LEDs arrive.

HA ... good one! :D Everything just looks clearer. More depth and dimension to the tank I guess. I don't really know how to explain it. I just figured that some of you at one point just looked at your tank and thought 'WOW .... how does this all of a sudden look so much better!' :)

thats great congrats!
do be careful with coraline and leaving it on glass (good move getting the urchin)
coraline will etch and mare glass if left on too long.
