Hey guys/girls. looking for a matted file fish to chomp on my aiptasia. I have a rock from a guy who shit his tank down...and voila I have aiptasia. The clams and rock had a few...now it seems like they are needing to be eradicated.

Why not try vinegar? Unless there are too many. I have had some success with it. just got to get the aiptasia straight in the mouth for it to work though I use a feeding tube and syringe.

If theres not that many take the rock out scrape them off and cover them with super glue or epoxy. Vinegar doesnt always work succesfully, if done wrong they will just release spore and spread.

I would try the File fish or Copper band. I have also heard that Peppermint shrimps but need a group not just 1 or 2. I believe there is a YouTube Video of a pack put into a reef tank and start to attack Aiptasia.

Copperbands can be very hit or miss aswell. Some will eat them some wont, and their survival rate isnt always that great either since theyre a more fragile fish. Ive had one in my tank for 2-3 months and havent seen him eating any aiptasias or see any dent in the population.

My peppermint was eating my LPS. Tugging at the hammers. I had three and saw a cool release of babies one night near midnight. I have him in the sump now...that's where he ended up all the time anyway due to the cleaner trying to kill him!

My condolences, LOL, I hate the stuff, there's a lot of so called cures out there, I must of tried them all twice, Peppermints are hit and miss, Copperbands with do it if you can get them to eat and survive in the tank, Bergia Nudibranch works if you can find them, If you can get them to survive the introduction to the tank, The best way I found was take the effected rock out of the tank and let it die off, put the rock in a Rubber Maid totes, keep it out side all winter then put it back in the tank, Very extreame but it works.

Very sorry to hear about your Copperband - they are gentle fish and can be easily bullied - mine is in a tank with no tangs so all ok
He doesn't eat aptasia, but I have spoiled him on frozen foods
As for the nudibranchs, they seem to be difficult to aclimatize - I had one a little while ago but haven't seen him lately so I assume that he didn't make it so I can't vouch for their aptasia eating capabilities

Berghia nudis will they just eat aiptasia? Yes, I bought 2, years ago, Put them in the tank, The first night i had a huge egg population all over the back of my tank, the rock from that tank continued to have Bergia in it long after i tore the tank down. I think there's a few Reefers out there that wonder why they never have an Apstatia problem. What I was told is they will eat it until it's gone then they will die off, But that was not my case, I would see them floating in the current long after the problem was gone.

I'm not sure where you'll find them, I bought mine from a guy in Kitchener. A store or a Lab really, That's all this guy sold. He had a place filled with tanks of Apstatia and he Bred the Bergia. I think the place closed, He may of sold them online. I'll bet he's sittin in Tahiti counting his money. In any event, One of the best investments out there.

Just have to make sure they start eating right away. I put 5 or 6 in a year ago in my 75g with a huge aiptasia problem. Only seen one after that and none since. And still have a bloody aiptasia problem. Theyre not cheap either. I think mine were like 25 a piece.
