Algae Battle. Let's Begin

after a very close inspection of my rocks, it does in fact appear that if have a gelidium issue. There is quite a bit of new corraline occurring on the glass and rock work, so it appears that I do have a chance lol.

I'm going to begin to manually remove the bubble algae each day with some 1/4" hard air hose, and expect that to last for a few weeks.

The gelidium is another matter.

I borrowed a sea hare to see what can happen there - I've read that they will eat it. I also picked up 10 Mexican turbos that also apparently eat it. I figure hit it with a full frontal assault!

If my sps wasn't doing so great, I would have just yanked everything and started over, but even over a weekly period the growth is noticeable now.

I also added 2 BRS deluxe reactors. One has a fractional amount of carbon, and the other has about 1/2 a dose of gfo.

I will document the results with photos.

So you are battling 2 different Algae's? You said Gelidium and Bubble Algae, wow. How old is the Tank, the reason I ask is years ago I had bought live rock when live rock was live rock out of the ocean I had a forest of Gelidium and just left it, it seem to peak and then die back tell it was gone. It was like as the tank aged it died back and I believe my Yellow Tank use to enjoy some every now and then. Mine was kind of cool if you took some and put it into some fresh water it would change colour and almost Floures. I believe Turbos will eat it I would be more concerned about the Bubble as it get into every nook and cranny.

Tank is about 9 months old now. Bubble came on a frag. I'm not so concerned about that, as it won't overgrow my corals. I have 4 or 5 emeralds, but they are dicks when they get bigger. I'm hoping keeping it at bay will be ok until I drop my phosphates down and kill it through removal. Most of my rocks have sps on them, encrusted, but if it comes to that, I'll just tear the rocks out and stick everything in my frag tank and go after the bubbles big time by removing each rock and picking it off. I'm giving it 6-8 months.

My yellow tangs and the sailfin eat the gelidium like candy. It's just a really big store lol
