I don't have lenses on mine.  I think people forget that the water surface

this might be true but i used a par meter and my numbers were significantly better with the optics down low on the sand bed especially.

Do you get spotlighting at the top?  I worry about having too much light at the sandbed.

I used 1" width. 3/4" would work too. Stars are aprox 3/4".

I got the material from Metal Supermarket in London.
