Anemone Question

Hey everyone.

I thought I'd better ask, because I personally haven't kept an anemone in close to 15 years. I especially don't have experience with rose BTA's.

I have a chance to pick up a 6" BTA. It's currently kept under a 250MH.

My questions for everyone are:

I'm skeptical about putting it in my DT. The last anemone I had decided to move when I was at work and stung the crap out of quite a few of my corals. It was a LT anemone. And since then I haven't kept one.

Do you guys think I should take the risk and add it to my DT? I have a SPS dominated tank, and I'm not sure I should risk it. What have all of you experienced with adding a BTA's to a SPS tank? Any tricks or tips to keep the thing from moving around?

Another option is I also have a 65gal (48X18X18)plumbed in with my sump and DT. But I am only running a 4 foot 4 bulb T5 fixture on that system. Do you guys think that would be enough light for the BTA if I decide not to add it to my DT?

I don't want to jump the gun and just get it, and find out later that I won't be able to provide the proper environment for the anemone to thrive.

Any opinions, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

I currently have 3 BTA's and what i do to keep them in one spot is make an island, surrounded by sand, i find that for some reason they wont venture out onto the sand and may move all over that lone rock/island but wont leave it.

I am currently keeping all 3 of my nems very happy under 120w China LED fixture. I would think 4 t5's MIGHT do it... but someone else will have to weigh in on that one.

Ya. The island trick won't work for me. I'm not going to redo the tank for a bta. Thanks for the tip though.

I'm still curious if I could keep it in good health under the T5's. Because I might set up a cube this winter for it.

But if people don't think the T5's are enough. I might be better off to wait.

I love that Anenome/Clown Fish interaction but I wouldn't put one in my tank, A separate tank? yes but not in my Display. I don't think the T-5 would be enough but if you look here on TFT you will see that someone is selling MH, put them both over a 65 and it's doable.

Your t5 tank will be more then enough.

Can you do a nice sized Island in your 65 gallon? Bubbletips will move to where they want, so with an island, it can pick it's height.

What sort of flow is in your 65 gallon?

I'm not changing lights out on the 65. I will be getting a led set up for it way down the road. That's why I was curious about the T5's

The 65 is already set up with island style scape. I have a ton of flow in the 65. 2 sicce 3 and 2 korilia 1050 power heads in there along with roughly 200gph from return line.

I think I'll pick it up then.

First I'll try him in my frag system, and if he seems to stay put in there, I may attempt him in my DT. I just love the look of anemones with clowns in a DT, but still a little worried it will eventually move and sting my sps.

Not impressed

they go where they want to, maybe even behind your rocks,i had one that wondered around but didn't sting anything then settled in behind the rocks then it moved too close to a power head and then poof it was history.

First photo is when I first got him home in the bag, still dripping him over.

Second picture was about 6 hours after I put him in my 65.

I've read and heard before that once BTA's lose their "bubble tips" it's really hard to get them back. This did not have any bubble tips in the sellers tank(probably stressed), but nor did his two mothers have any as well. But seems like it's happy in my system. Within 6 hours of putting him in, the bubble started to form again. Is this normal? Also, it looks even better this morning, I just can't snap a pic cause lights are out. Maybe I'll post another pics later today.
