Ati 8 Bulb Fixture Help

I run an ATI 8 bulb fixture, the 6 bulb channel runs fine, it is the two bulb channel that is giving me a headache.

Sometimes it works just fine. Comes on and off as the RKE tells it too. Some days it doesn't come on and if I just tap the bulb a little bit, on the end gently, voila! It comes on. What is going on? The bulbs are all brand new within the past 2 months and i was having this issue with my previous bulb set on the same channel.

Any tips or tricks to get it back up and running 100%?

Hi Tony,
What model is it? Sunpower? Powermodule?
If you are tapping the fixture and seeing results then I'd say it's a loose connection issue....is it under warranty? If not then are you comfortable taking it apart? I have taken apart my Dimmable SunPower a couple times now to replace ballasts.... There are some vids on the net or I can give u a hand....

That sucks, these ati fixtures are ridiculously expensive yet all I ever hear about them are issues with them not working, this is the 3rd or 4th one on this site along

I would be opening it up. Checking connections and the pin contacts for corrosion. Can replace the bulb connectors or rub them down with a bit of sand paper:)

It may also be the ballast.

I got mine used. so I'll assume warranty is out of the question.

And I have the non dimmable one.

If anyone wants to help me I'll pay in beer or whiskey. (I'd need a second person just to get the canopy off anyways, cause it's mounted inside) so I can't do this alone.

All I do is tap the the bulb by the way, ever so gently. So I got a feeling just something isn't 100% connected. Maybe the end caps?

To clean this thing or take it apart I have to lift off my canopy. That can't be done alone. Not even close. I need a second person to assist me. The canopy doors don't open in a way that I can remove the fixture without taking the top off all together.

nope. I will be later tonight though.

PS: Do I need a special tool to open this thing up? Special torx bit or something?
Im heading out of town at 4 tonight. I can swing by some night next week if that helps any. Also I believe they are standard screws. Might be allen Key but I doubt it.

i would guess an end cap issue, also i replaced a fan recently cuz mine was toast, you need the adapter or the whole fan unit. i got mine from IA

I agree that you have a connection issue. Use an eraser not sandpaper as typically the connector points will oxidize and sanding them will cause greater issues down the way. Are you seeing any moisture build-up within the lens or reflectors. I used to have one with no issues of any sort...great light fixture. The cooling fan adapter was rather cheap but otherwise a good solid unit.

I think I will buy 4 new end caps and wire them in fresh instead of salvaging the old ones. The canopy is too hard to remove to take a chance on a test it and see sorta thing. If I fix it I don't want to have to fix it again anytime soon. The end caps are a few bucks each at Incredible aquarium.
