I would like to do a algae scrubber on the new setup not sure if seahorse with yveterinarians advice or go 100 gallon tall with jellyfish or a clam breader system, either way going to do a algae scrubber . are you growing caulerpa or cheato in yours cant tell by picsno the one under the 90 is a old 30 gal i had kicking around from years ago when i had a 60 gal tank... deaperately needs to be re-arranged so i can makeshift an algae scrubber again... the one for the 125 i custom built out of acrylic if you go back in my 125-90 thread their should be some pics of the 125 and fuge unfortunately had to remove the pics from my phone so i had room for work pics lol
wife is leaning towards sea horses also... what kind of system do you have going for themi have spaghetti chaeto, grape chaeto and caulerpa.... seems my pods or something keep eating my spaghetti tho..... i got all 3 of my seahorses from yvette 2 boys and 1 girl they are one thing you will never be board of i think i honestly watch them more than my tv lol even when not doing anything they are neat
i custom built a 45 gal low flow but added a powerhead they seem to like the flow.... have a thread with a bunch of pics in members tanks. i really figured they would be more work but really hardest part is the 5 min every morning and night it takes to feed themwife is leaning towards sea horses also... what kind of system do you have going for them
i had no luck with zoa's, Frank Hoff of Florida aqua farms told me to use 1 cup of quality activated carbon per/100 gallons half that changed every 2 weeks. It removes a lot of the mucus's that other corals slough off and it worked I actually have sps's right beside leathers beside zoa's and they all grow nice. Also they don't like my halides so they off to the side a bit bright but not killer bright. just seemed to work for me.Just got through reading the whole thread. Your tank is stunning! It is something I have always wished I could accomplish with mine but I just haven't been able to with all the time I have put into the seahorses. If you ever do decide to go with seahorses maybe we could trade ideas. You could let me know what I'm doing wrong with my reef and how to fix it. (I'm not sure "doing wrong" is the right wording since LPS seems to do well but I can't get my zoas to grow well and would love to have more of them) I'd love your input sometime.

by the way still going to do the horses just have to wait till spring a bit now .
ya I started doing iodide for my shrimp and crabs they say they need it for their shedding. i had no idea zoa's need iodide. i learned yaaayyyAnd if you can keep them alive fine but want them to grow more i got rapid growth after started dosing iodide ( rapid as far as corals go lol)
thats why i started to do it as well for my shrimps but my lfs and a few places ive read on the net say they help zoanthids growth.... mine before just lived now i gotta keep cutting them or id become only zoosya I started doing iodide for my shrimp and crabs they say they need it for their shedding. i had no idea zoa's need iodide. i learned yaaayyy

i love the vodka dosing method I have used it a lot in the past and really works. I just moved my big system in oct and after moving always get the nasty spikes with stirring sand and rock. so my nitrates went to 20 ppm and dosed for 2 weeks and got it to under 1 and a week after that 0.I still ran my carbon not sure if that right or not with vodka. never really thought about that. from what I know I think that activated carbon absorbs certain organics like yellowing of water and coral mucus. and the carbon in vodka is more of a bacteria stimulant. but I not sure that is just my thoughts. At the moment I am doing vodka dosing to get the phosphates and nitrates down. If I add carbon into the mix that will be too much carbon, am I right?
Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread barebottomcouple but I have to know... for both of you, what version of iodide are you using? I Googled it and found potassium iodide, copper iodide, zinc iodide, sodium iodide, silver iodide... you get the picture. As a nurse I have access to lots of liquid iodine but from what I read iodide is when iodine bonds with another element so I don't imagine I can use my liquid iodine for dosing. After this question I will start my own thread
I like the aqua vitro line I use eight.four and fuel for when needed. kent was on sale for 2.99 a bottle so I bout 8 bottles.Almost everything i use is all aqua vitro by seachem their "vibrance" is potassium iodide as well
