battery backup system

I am looking to do a automatic battery backup system for my tank and am wondering what you guys have for a back up. I was thinking something along the line of a sump battery back up for my return pump and a vortech backup for one of my mp40w pumps

i was thinking of doing the same thing i have read of guy  buying a battery back up unit at tigerdirect it and its called a ups not that expensive

I'm not sure on the brand of that unit but for what your getting and the price, it's a pretty good deal being on sale.

Just looked at specifications, has a 1 minute full load, 6 min half load run time,. I would figure what's all going to be running on it, then figured out if its worth getting.

I have a few UPS on my system. One for the return pump and one for my powerheads. I suggest finding one with a "pure" sine wave or you may have problems with it running your return pump. The one I have will run my Water Blaster HY10000 return pump for a good 1/2 hr if not more. The one I have running 2 powerheads will last 2 hours before it drains the battery.

That should be good to run both units and has a pure sine wave. Pricey, yes. But worth it.

I have an older  Apc Back UPs 1500 not pure sine but digitally stepped to simulate sine $200 at Costco and they put them $30 off occasionally.

Well after last nights ice storm and me losing power for a scary 45min. Im putting in an order for a UPS today !
Both UPS linked above look good any more suggestions ? I only plan on buying one. Whats the best thing to have running ?
Powerhead (mp10) or return pump (marineland 1800). What about heat ?

Hey guys cant remember who messaged me awile back about a battery back up that wanted one but i still have a bunch  there the apc back-ups ES model 500 also model 350  might have a battery or 2 fir those that want one but most are wuthout a battery 30 bucks and come get one if interesyed

you better off to go and buy a generator.. those Apc backups are going to give you 10-15 minutes tops running a return pump.. maybe less. and after a year or two the batteries are cooked in them anyways.. if you want to go battery the best way would be to rig up a cheap deep cycle boat battery and keep it on a trickle charge out in the garage with an inverter you will get 10x the running out of a boat battery than one of those small Apc units. the vortech batttery is nice if your not home at the time of an outage tho.

Not thinking the apc but more the ecotech battery back up pack, unless the same applies to those.

no i think those things get seriously good run time.. like 12-24hr or something, they run the pumps at a low speed and save energy.

Ya the apc ones are fine ive had a power outage and it ran my 6 bulb t5 unit and a 500 gph return pump and a air pump for over a hour and was still going strong when power came back on so dont know how linger it would have lasted but at least i know i got a hours worth to start with

thats really good, ill have to check those out. i was thinking of the older longer grey box looking apc units.. they are rated for 2 minutes of use at full load (300w)
