Thanks for passing this around, Fishing is my PASSION, so nothing interests me to know more about these articles, and the truths behind them.

I'm glad that someone else enjoyed the article, I was horrified. As someone who's had freshwater for eons, the pollution of the waterways screamed out at me, what a sad state of affairs to set up salmon farms on the rivers that the wild salmon run - what were they thinking? apparently not thinking at all.

A legitimate and complex issue....

Unfortunate that the conspiracy theorists always feel the need to "muddy the waters" by lacing their side of the story with as many half-truths and lies as the industry lobby groups.

My mother (retired) was a field researcher geneticist for the DFO. An actual geneticist mind you not someone who has honorary degrees granted to recognize years of environmental activism like Ms.Morton.  She was also frustrated at times with the balancing act of a government agency seeing to the needs of industry, non commercial fishing, native groups, environmental groups, and worst of all political optics.

However the overriding lesson from all of her experience is that all of these issues are shades of grey and anyone who tries to tell you that it is black and white is simply lying to you.

My biggest, yet most simple question would be, several times in that video they showed images of the waterways, the migration routes, and the locations of the fish farms,
There are DOZENS and DOZENS of waterways where there aren't known migration routes for these salmon, why aren't these Factory fish farms in there rivers and systems? In theory all they want is the river to filter and clean all the waste away from the fish so they don't have to do it..

I have some weird feeling there is alot more to it than the general public will ever know, what's stopping them from netting a couple thousand migrating adults and tossing them in their farms and selling them for top dollar as farm raised? and did you see the fish those Americans(and Probably canadians are buying) YUCK... How the hell can people not know what a healthy fish is supposed to look like :\

my one concern was that fish farming is known to have highly polluted water, so add to that the possibility of transferring disease and parasites that the wild salmon have never been exposed to into waters that the wild salmon have lived in for centuries. It makes absolutely no sense to me that it would be allowed, but what do I know?

I don't eat salmon and I hope every bear everywhere drops dead of starvation.  Anything that can eat me on land is no friend of mine.  :)

I'm going to get some 'down with salmon' t-shirts made up for the swap meet.

No way, I caught a wild salmon in my backyard yesterday, it was attacking one of my kids.  It was a fierce struggle, I barely escaped with all my limbs.  From now on I shoot all wild salmon on sight!!!
