Bean Animal External Overflow

i picked up this 200 g yesterday and I'll be tearing it apart and redoing it. I'm doing a bean animal in an external overflow (thanks Phil) and I want to notch the back.

I'll be taking it to a glass shop and having them notch it. The tank dimensions are 84 x 30 wide x 20 tall.

I don't want to lose too much height, so I was doing to do a 1" notch that will be 6 ft long.

Does this sound right? I want a thin ribbon of water going through the slot. I'll also be euro racing the tank.

Those are 2" wide or 3"? Was going to do 1/2" eurobraces both top and bottom

NAFB done the beananimal on my 150,they told me they dissasembled the tank, cut what looks like a 2" slice off the top of the back pane, put it back together with a starphire front pane with 3" front and rear bracing on the floor of the tank.your idea should work fine.

Is that an external box? Can you take a side pic of it? I'm not going to use the teeth. Just a thin ribbon of water going over it. 1" cut. Did they temper the back? That's what miracles said to do

Pros and cons of teeth in the overflow....I didn't use teeth as it would theoretically reduce your flow by 50 percent or at least interrupt a nice laminar flow over the edge. I have only had a few times where my fish or shrimp ended up in the sump.

I'm trying to get the back notched to allow the water to overflow but easier said than done. Miracles wants 600-800 to do it and temper the back pane. Anybody have a good glass shop?

How much for the 1" cut all tbe way across? Could do that, then get a piece of acrylic cut with teeth (JT perhaps?) to silicone to inside of box. Make sense?

I'm trying to figure out how to eurobrace the back. It can pic up part of the overflow box and the sides. I guess 19" really isn't going to bow is it.

I'm really trying to avoid teeth if I can.

How wide would you make the overflow box? 5"? I figure 3/8 glass would be fine. The glass place would like 5" to drill the holes. Since its a 200 gallon I was going to use 1" pipe for everything so that would be 3 - 1 1/2" holes correct

What about return water? What is your plan for that? Over the top or another hole and bulkhead? Depending on your pump you might want an 1 1/2 holes for drain for ultimate size not for full potential. I always like to try and oversize for safety if possible. Bigger is easier to throttle down then smaller is to overstuff.

The hole for 1 1/2" bulkheads is what? 2 5/8?

I really doesn't matter how far it sticks out the back. I can do the 1.5" if I go 6" wide.

Definitely using that construction grade clear for the overflow and for euro bracing. Black for seams

Found a glass shop to polish all the edges, cut the back and drill the holes in the c2c box for me.

It's not super cheap but WAAAAY cheaper than a custom tank.

I'm going to have to attach the c2c to the outside edges of the tank. 7 feet of silicone should support it I think ;)

The eurobrace on the back I will do wider to pick up more of the box along with the side of the tank.

I will be coming back over the top of the tank for the returns. I'm only looking to push 800 gph through the sump

Someplace I saw either pets and ponds or reef supplies had drill bits I think they said 60mm was for 1 1/2 bulkhead. Now that is sch40 bulkheads. The sch80 ones are huge and over rated.
