It is always sad to see the loss of life when this happens.

That is not a good story, Who knows why this happened but this should be a reminder to every one that tank seams let go sooner or later. As most of us know about Poseidons disaster last year and the bigger the tank the more the disaster. I know a couple of these guys involved so it bothers me to hear this.

This is the same tank as mentioned in another thread here. Nineball is the owner and the story gets pretty in depth. Best to take the time to read the thread over there

Thing I hate the most about that tank failure was it was a seam failure. Totally poor workmanship. I love how companies hide behind the warranty. They screwed it up. Period

For some reason ($$$$$) they built that tank with two different thicknesses of plexi. 1", and 1.5". IMO (and I haven't even dreamt of projects of this size) it would make sense that if one side needed 1.5", then do the whole thing! My thinking is the "weakest link" if you make the long side strong, then you are leaving the short side taking on extra pressure!

If you look at the pictures of the failure, love the sticker thats visible... The seam let go, then it tore two cracks in 1" plexi!!!!! Even with 1/4" plexi it takes a lot to break even a bad glue joint!

I have seen this system irl and Peter is an excellent host.

Personally I couldn't finish reading it, way to much to take first thing in the morning.

I also find myself emotionally attached to my fish and reef, that would be devastating. I hope he will rebuild, but wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

same here I think we all become emotionally attached to our little ocean creations...I can not fathom how he felt coming home to that...I think I would open a bottle of Jose Cuervo and just cry ...
