Bleached Nem Or Just Natural Colour?

Read a few times on the net when a nem looks like this, it's bleached and not getting enough light. Bought it at frag fest and it has been this colour ever since. I have a hard time believing it's not getting enough light, since it doesn't climb any higher on its rock, and has grown since I got it. Thoughts?

I have seen many come in this colour and go back to solid pink with purple tip.

Did you purchase from R2o aquariums at fragfest?

Got it from a member on here , Chuckm i believe. I know a few other people bought nems from him at fragfest as well. Not sure what colours they turned out to be. Any idea what causes them to change colour so drastically?

no they came from a private member ... I wish he would sell it to me, I have always wanted a piece that colour and I have never found one and we both got the same thing from the same place and mine is darker than ever..

Once i get better lighting for my daughters tank, the nem will be moved there. At that point it'll be up to her if it's for sale. She's 5, so she'll likely drive a hard bargain!

Found my hardwick wrasse laying on the bottom this morning... exactly the same as my pearlscale butterfly. Swimming and eating one day, laying dying on the bottom the next morning. Is it possible the anemone is actually a condy, and fish are getting stung? I can think of no other reason for the butterfly and wrasse to suddenly die. Of course, canary wrasse and puffer are just fine!

You seem to be having a tough time with livestock lately.

YOU DIDN'T QT THEM, and are you sure where they came from... I am super suspicious, why did they sell him that cheap..I can't see it being the nem, fish are smart enough to stay away from things that sting..

Both the butterfly and wrasse came from tanks that were too small, two different people, each had 20g tanks. I've sold fish stupid cheap just to sell quickly (tank teardown, bully fish).

that is soo sad with the fish that you have lost lately, I would strongly recommend that you do a complete teardown, something has to be going on and try to find the root of the issue, cheap or not, who like fishing out dead fish..:(

Anemone stings don't cause serious damage to fish unless the stingers are strong enough and the fish are small enough to be pulled in wrapped up (then stung many many many times) and consumed. Mostly the stings are just irritating enough to keep larger fish out.

Actually one of the problems that we can create when we mix creatures that are from vastly different areas is that they don't recognize a threat until it is too late... That is one of the main reasons that Atlantic Condy's can cause so many deaths when mixed with a tank full of Indo-Pacific reef fish
