i just ordered 3 pails of Brightwell from BRS last week, and am actually mixing my first 50 gallons now.

Apparently is come out around 7.5 dkh, with a ph of 8.3 and ideal levels of calcium, alk and mag.

I paid 62.99 US with free shipping, but got dinged at the border on taxes lol. So with exchange it worked out to around $80.00 Canadian.

The lower alk is certainly appealing after discovering that the IO reef crystals is coming in at 11 dkh.

I sell brightwell, so you may have some difficulty ordering it direct from distribution. They have some really cool products. Their cold water marine line is quite popular as well as the microbacter 7.

I spoke to a wholesaler here, and depending how this goes, I may order a skid worth, so am inviting some of you to participate in a group buy if it goes that way and there's enough interest. I've been trying to get local stores to carry it, but haven't had much luck.

It would be interesting to see your results in the past bright well was not known for consistent salt and had high alk issues

I myself am trying some new salts as DD I find is very inconsistent and leaves a horrible residue in my barrels. So far the best is fauna Marin, the worst has been Red Sea

I'm going to be mixing a new pure 50g barrel of it tomorrow ( the one I just mixed had remnants of RC. )

It sure mixed nice with no residue!

When I first started using RSCP I would agree with comments. Once I started adding salt slower and not agitating it too much and certainly NO heat, I have not had a problem since. What i do find odd is dkh of stated 12.2 keeps coming up at about 9.6. Mind you thats with tap temp. No clue of it changes with temp.

I would be curious to hear feedback none the less. Not sure on how 63 bucks cdn to us plus the taxes comes to 80 however. Should be closer to 92. At that price, Unibob is the winner at 75 bucks. I assume thats a tax in number? Even if not, still better.

The kicker is BRS ships free over $175 to a US address. (Not sure how they can ship it free, but regardless it doesn't happen in Canada..from anyone I know of)

Pricing would be close, but getting salt to your door is always nice. I have no idea what it would be shipped to your door from BRS.

My price is $75/pail + whatever it costs to ship. (Something I cannot change)

Unibob, which salt are you using?

I read a little on the BRS site. They seem to really want you to mix and aerate for 24 hours. Off gassing or something like that. Not a fan of this, that's for sure. I also talked to the rep, who frankly instilled 0 confidence. To the point where I talked to Jeff Kent about it. Will keep a look out from Local peoples feedback.

Oh for sure. But Mike has to Drive to pick it up on the US then deals with bringing it back. I have no clue how so many US companies afford to ship for free. regardless. $62 USD canadian with tax is over $90 bucks, so you are doing well at that price.

If I was personally going to go to that trouble, I would be looking at HW-Marinemix Reefer Salt. Any chance you can source that?

I know very little about the brightwell salt, never used myself.

I'm currently using Red Sea coral pro. I mix it in whatever temp my Rodi is at, which would be room temperature or a bit lower. By the time it warms up with heater in bucket, I use in tank, all of it. I don't have salt mixed up in advance, so if I need to do a emergency water change, I am stuck with whatever RODI freshwater I have made up in container.

It was 62 plus exchange, which is around 80. Sometimes I pay the taxes, sometimes they don't make me and let me go.

I have meetings in Niagara every week, so it's no big deal to hop across the border. I also buy a lot from Brs lol

The shipping is free on EVERYTHING from BRS. Not over $175. Over $199 is free UPGRADED shipping, which is 2-3 days vs 4 days.

I just did my first 25 gallon wc on my frag system, and already the corals look much better (maybe in my head) than with IO.

Most of the salt brands suggest a 24 HR mix. Of course some don't, but a 24 HR mix isn't a big deal.

I'll be mixing up another batch in the next day or so, and will keep you guys informed on the parameters I'm getting.
