So as some of you may know i purchased a copperband Via my Tank thread, and my yellow tang was giving him a run for his money. Well so far the copperband is still kicking and eating mysis but my stupid yellow tang will not let him leave the one top side of the tank, just wont leave him alone. Im worried the yellow bastard is going to stress the copperband out too much to the point of death. Any tips on dialing down aggression between fish? Im guessing he doesnt like him because of his similar body shape?

Yup dump the tang because this will never end
OR sell the Copperband to save it's life
Copperbands are very passive fish and are very slow swimmers and eaters
Definitely you didn't do your research

I was advised that the last fish introduced to the tank should be the yellow tang. That is what I did and I also made sure he was just a little smaller than the Tomini tang I had in there. They squabbled a bit at first but settled in within a day or so. I don't have a copperband in my tank, but sounds like the tang should go?

Heres the thing, ive had 2 copperbands with him before in the past with no issues with bullying, the copperbands never lasted very long because i bought them without seeing them eat first. Not once did i ever see that kind of agression out of him with any of the others.

Not all yellow tangs are bad. I have had mine for 10 years and never had a problem, even when I introduced my Copperband. My tang is big and the copper is small and the size difference helped with aggression. Typically if the size difference is large enough after a few weeks the aggression dies down. But not always, sometime you just get a jerk of a fish.

the yellow tang has been the ruler for a long time and he is not going to give up his power..have you thought of removing the yellow for awhile and then try to re-introduce it to the tank, kind of the last fish..or you could always sell him and try a baby yellow.. my yellow is the most plastid fish in my tank..

Putting a large mirror against the tank will sometimes give them a more interesting rival to fight with...

I am a big believer from my experience that tangs that are alone (no other tangs of any sort) for too long eventually will no longer accept any new similar fish. Where tangs that grow up always having rivals stay more community oriented.

I also have had my yellow tang for 10+ years and added my cbb last fall with no issues.

Have you tried a period of lights out or rearranging the rocks to confuse him a bit?

Sony Xperia Z3
I did lights out the first day i got him, other than that no. Rearranging rocks wont work well because almost every rock has coral encrusting on it, so itd be a royal pain to rearrange it all.

I would seriously try and catch him and either put him in your sump for a bit or sell him..you could probly get enough to buy a small one and then introduce it to the tank..
