Cleaning A Hob Skimmer Questions

well i was wondering , I have a E-shop psk100 hob skimmer , best $ I ever spent , it's been well over the 1 year mark and Im starting to wonder why all of a sudden my black foam peice thag helps get rid of the bubbles on the out take of the skimmer , and it's getting a lot of green hair algee but no where else in the tank.
So I took a good look at the skimmer and seen that it's starting to collect debree in the skimmer ( not te collection cup)

How do you clean these guys with out messing up the skimmer/damamge it in any way ,

I use vinegar and water

Put it in a bucket with water and vinigar and let it run for a few hours then soak for a few more hours. Should run like new

After it running for a new hours in vinigar should I let it run in just normal water ?

Rinse it off and throw it on the tank and let her go. Vinegar dosing is often used in Saltwater tanks so it won't have any adverse effects

Well.. Here's my Sunday afternoon lol is it normal for the skimmer to act a little funny with hot water and vinigar ? Every 10-15 seccond I can see it chugging and shake weird and then stop and then over and over lol , is that risking te motor

I personally never let it run very long when cleaning. just a minute or two. I clean it let it soak clean again. Run it for a minute or two while watching it and that's it. Running it for any length of time seams pointless to me. I just cleaned my return pump on my nuvo 20. pulled some gunk out let it sit for a few minutes and ran it for a minute and then back it went. it shouldn't be extremely dirty and have anything stuck to it that hard.

So I made a own cleaning stick for the skimmer inner walls lol works awesome
