I was wondering if there is other ways to get alk and cal and ph ... beside the chemical test kits ???

Hanna checkers?? thoughts

I use Hanna for alk and calc they are very easy to use and read very precise still got to have a chemical ter kit as a back up though

ok thank i have heard things ... no do they work on read outs ?? as in do u have to put astuff in them to reload???

bunch of PH controllers exist on the market
For Ca it also exists but probe for Ca controller cost about $200.
That's why Ca test/controllers are not so popular.
PH probe: $20 from ebay or $50-70 made from USA.
Device about 100-150$
These devices do not require reloading. Periodically they need to be calibrated.
Usually I calibrate it once-twice a year.

The Hanna checkers are chemical test kits just like the others. The difference being that instead of using your eyes and your ability to interpret colours and shades, they use an internal light source and colourimeter to take the reading.

Personally I like the Hanna ULR phosphorus tester but many don't. Not big on the other Hanna's. I have a Milwaukee ph meter/controller, the rest I use regular test kits of different brands.

I like the idea of the Hanna checker. But... I find adding a powdered reagent leaves room for spilling and for some being left in the little foil pack. Maybe it's just me though. At least liquid drops are relatively easy.
