no coral likes direct flow. it becomes stressful to them.... the one thing you can blow your powerhead directly onto is gorgonians the more flow they have the more their polyps are out. i find if the branches dont blow around in strong current pe is limited along with lifespan. they also come in tons of colours but unless you use alot of reef roids frequently get the photosynthetic gorgonians. non photo gorgs are considered expert level to keep. acros love high flow but again direct isnt the best. monti digis do good too..... with proper acclimation you can essentially put monti anywhere.

Does the Vortechs have the ability to direct the flow?
I assume so. I know that bouncing the water streams off the front and back walls is the best way to limit direct flow

No they don't, that's one of the only trade-offs with a Vortech. Because the motor itself is outside the aquarium, the flow is always perpendicular to the glass it's mounted on in order to transfer energy efficiently. They take up way less room in the aquarium, but you can't point them

that what I thought, all that money and no direction control. I have no idea why a pivoting like a fan would have not already been available variable speeds and strengths. Causing either a back and forth or up and down wave like action.

Jebao pumps can be directed. And also can adjust speeds, and has different modes.

I like vortechs because of no power in the tank. After using korilla's for years I like the fact that they can't leak voltage
