Do You Or Have You Ever Names Your Fish?

I picked up an emerald crab today and after throwing him in my tank my son asked me what was I going to name him?

I told him I don't name fish or inverts. I don't think I ever have? I have called some of my salty friends some pretty awful names from time to time. But never like a pet name like you would a dog or a cat or even a rat.

So do you name them? What's the names and the species?

It's usually friends/family that name my fish.

One I remember well was "daphnie" she was a beautiful vlagami tang.

Garçon was another, he was a cleaner shrimp.

My wife named my black clown Batman...

My kids named my striped damsel Prince George, but that is all they named. They refer to the rest by their known name.

Pretty much all have names mostly the kids naming them foxy for fox face spikey for the long spind urchin andalot of nemo names

I wonder why we don't name them? I've had fish for over five years (fresh water) and never once named one.

I've named them all, but that may because of naming my lizards aswell

Gus-the watchman goby
Sunny & Cher- my 2 clowns
Urrie- the blue tuxedo urchin
Kronos-the Chromis
Manny- the Manderin
Gary- the strawberry conch(from sponge-bob)
Eruza- the Azure damsel
Crabbies-all the crabs
Herman-the Halloween hermit
Newman- the Flame BTA
And last Connan O-Brian-the coral banded shrimp,CB for short form
Also when I had fresh water my parahna was named Pedro

I named them but then lost track of which was which when I started getting multiples of the same fish. Its pretty hard to differentiate three yellow tangs.

I used to name them but the longer I stayed in he hobby, I had to get used to fish dying, which is sadly inevitable

When they passed on it felt worse for me to say that "Slappy" died rather than Goby died : (

SamB I guess you're right. Most fish don't live that long.

my oldest fish is my silver mono " big guy "and I have him for almost 5 yrs now and he is still going strong,,,

i just call it big one or pretty one or bastard one.... the boy has no interest unless i buy something new but to the neighbors kid they are all fishy, she horse and anenomomommy lmao

i use the colour code system

orange fish,blue fish, stripped fish, yellow with blue spots,clear tail .... ect

The only one I've ever named is the greenbird wrasse and it's because he's a pig, hence the moniker ! Pigpen it is !
