About to put in my substrate (CaribSea Fiji pink)....says to rinse first....can I rinse with tap water or do I need to rinse with RO?

Is that the alive stuff? It if is the oolite size or alive I would not.

If it is the small grain size oolite size it will go poof into the freshwater.

If it is a larger size then oolite you should be able to give it a wash. Just don't try and get the water clean because you will not as the freshwater breaks down some down. But if it is the special grade size you should be fine.

So you are saying there is no harm in using tap water to rinse....correct?

I have the black hawaii sand ... i am guessing the same thing

You wont wreck the glass, I've got sugar sand and yes it does go everywhere, but!!!, once it settles in its spot it won't move around the tank, unless you plan on having gobies :), or clowns who like to bathe in it:) or a power head pointed at it...

you guys are crazy... I rinse mine in tap water, small amounts of substrate and let the water run over it, swish it around with your hands..
btw, the only stupid question is the one that was not asked...
