Electrocuted

So while doing a water change today i decided to pull my skimmer off and do a vinegar bath. After i got it out i reached in to grab the output cup and recieved a good shock!! What do i do in this kinda case..do i unplug everything and go one by one and touch the water to see if i get shocked again? Im guessing it was probably the maxijet that was pushing water into the tank cuz during me siphoning i never was shocked.. i hate electricity and beig shocked lol! Thanks

Yep, one by one unplug them.

If it's a piece of equipment you aren't willing to replace just yet, you could install a grounding probe.

Im pretty sure it was the maxijet stuck my hand in after the water change and nohing happened.

It was more like a jolt and me screaming like a girl haha. Surprised and scared the shit out me...and apparently my dad when i screamed lmao!

just do a tough mudder, i did one last month, at the end there is a section you have to go through called electric shock therapy
its only 10,000 volts haha

Or check it the safe way and use a volt meter. But then again. Where's the fun in that?? Lol

That said I was always very sensitive to stray voltage at my last job. I could feel about a 4-5v loss in signal from the equipment on a rainy day just by touching the truck.

My bet is maxi jet... That's the same thing that happened to me and it was the culprit. They seem to have that issue when put in salt water tanks.

Glad you're ok Riley, years ago my x got thrown across the room when checking the freshwater tank when the fish were acting funny, stuck his hand in the tank and wham ! he got one hell of a shock, his skin colouring was grey and of course he refused to go to the hospital to get checked. The culprit turned out to be the heater. The fish had broken it. His automatic reaction when the fish were doing this vibrating thing was to put his hand in the tank. He was lucky, it could have been much worse. Scary stuff electricity and water

Very lucky Riley that it wasn't worse. Get a volt meter and check everything. Never assume because there might be something else as well. A lesson for all of us, myself included.

It was a mj400 that kept tripping my gfci receptacle and ultimately caused a small tank crash...

Stupid pumps. Now im worried the MJ running my gfo reactor will start doin the same...grr how i hate electricity lol.

I wouldn't worry about it.... I've been running MJ pumps for over 6 years and only had this ever happen once. I've had many burn out and quit working on me though. When they were built in Italy they were much better quality IMO
What I would worry about if I was you is why the GFCI didn't trip out when the current leaked from the pump into the water and through you....?

Dont have a gfci lol thatd be why it didnt trip haha. Thats going in on the 135 build in my room when i.run new electrical to my room.

What exactly does a gfci do and prevent? May sound like a dumb question to most, but im not that familiar with electrical.

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt. You likely have one in your bathroom near the sink. It's so that when you throw the hair dryer in the bathtub with the wife it blows an onboard breaker instead of electrocuting her. You can get them as a wall type plug or as a direct fit circuit breaker in your panel.
