I don't run my pump without them, maintenance is a bit of a pain in the arse but I think it's worth the effort.

I'm too cheap for that, I wash'em till they are worn out, about 2 years.

the vertex ones are crap.  I've been looking for a good replacement.  I think I get about 2 years out of socks if they're on a rotation, but sooner or later you just can't clean them anymore, they clog in about 2 days.

I cut that center plastic thing out and turn them inside out and throw them in the wash.

Soaking the felt ones in a strong bleach solution will burn all of the organic fines out of them without the physical damage of a lot of wringing or the washer will rinse out with no residue.  Quick and easy.

if yu wash them in bleach or soap  are yu not worrying about the bit of left over that is still in a sock thats been thru the wash?…..i just use the shower head on fast pulse then wring it out  ..but this morning i still had 5 gallon of old tank water then i dipped them in there after and wringed them ..but the vertex ones are crappy  so i just toss them

Bleach is OK, gone completely when dry, if u use soap you must use washing soda.

I give them a quick rinse to get the big stuff out, then into a plastic container that is used only for this. Just big enough for the sock some hot water and bleach. Swish around with a plastic stick, rinse and repeat letting it sit for a few minutes.  Then let the water run on it until the smell of ammonia is gone ring it out and rinse with RO and back in service.
