Fish Trap For Dummy's

Depending on the size of the fish you can do the following. Cut the top off of an ocean spray cranberry juice jug (large one or similar with large top opening that is big enough for the fish to swim through) invert it into the body so that the top funnels into the base. Glue the two pieces together in the aforementioned configuration. Tie a string or fishing line to the top most edge of the container. Place food item in jug, place jug on side at bottom of aquarium, wait patiently, when target fish swims into jug pull on string, this tilts the jug up right and disorients the fish who can no be easily raised up and out in the jug. Worked for me for several smaller fish in years past. It can be difficult to find larger jugs for large fish obviously but I am guessing 'shit brick' means it is a tiny polyp nipping terror. Give it a try and let us know if it works.

I finally broke down and bought one of these for myself:

The trap is made of plastic, but there is a pane of glass that slides into the bottom of the trap to give it weight, and the trap door is also made of glass so it can sit on the bottom of your tank without floating to the top. A little bit of food in placed in the tube that is sticking out of the top, and it sinks to the bottom. The idea is that the fish swims in, and the door is held in place by a hair trigger. Once the desired fish is in, you pull the line and the door slides closed. The downfall of this trap is that you have to be actively watching the tank to trap the fish you want. I caught my panther grouper, and my lion fish with this thing, and it was worth its weight in gold. Surprisingly expensive for such a simple design, but oh well. I'd buy it again if I had too.

If you want to invest the time, take 2 two liter pop bottles and make something like this

I use a mag float to hold it close to the surface and made a hole in the top of it to bait it with food, I can catch any fish in my tank with it.

Very simple, but works well

Exactly what I was trying to describe, just executed a little differently

The problem with those traps is that you have to be watching it. If you leave it overnight you can end up with a few dead fish in a bottle. The store bought ones or from jt the fish can swim in and out freely so you can leave it in and go fishing when you want.
