So i bought sirhc13's fragtank, and cant decide what to do with it. Do i turn it into a frag tank/qt as it its own system or tie it in with my current one. I would preferably like to use it as a frag/ incoming fish and coral tank and just have a shut off for time i do qt something? Will this work or is it a choice between just a frag tank or just a qt tank. Thanks
Riley

Just keep in mind whatever you're medicating fish in a qt with, you won't be able to mix corals in with it.
Also, if you plan to just "shut" it off from the rest of your system while medicating. That won't work either without draining the frag/qt tank before looping back into your main system.
If you're looking to use it as a qt for corals and possibly fish. Keep it as a separate system.

I personally chose to connect my frag tank with my main system because I don't want to dbl the WC's for two separate systems.

I wouldnt use it as a hospital tank persay...just like a monitoring tank so they can relax before going into the main display..if need to be medicated id put them in a separate tank to treat. Just trying to get some ideas flowing.. as im currently moving out of my room(where my tank is) to the spare room. And the fishroom will now be the spare room, didnt have room with all my crap to fit another tank lol.

I would not attach any tank to the reef that you will use as a QT as that kind of defeats the purpose of a quarantine tank. If you can't medicate fish in it and it is already attached to the main system you might have well just put the fish right into the main tank. Same goes with corals if you are segregating them from your other corals to look for disease or parasites. Using it as a frag tank and QT system I would not do also as a QT should be its own tank. What happens if you have the tank full of frags and you get something in last min that you need to QT and treat? You going to have to move all the frags out and find space someplace and they have to adjust to the new conditions so you can treat the new fish. Then move them back again and they have to adjust again? QT systems should be stand alone systems that give you the flexibility of doing treatments that you could otherwise not do in the main system. It also allows to to cut cost as you are medicating a smaller volume of water.

I also connect my frag tank to my main system so I can use the stability of a larger volume of water and less water changes. I never attach my QT as this is a stand alone tank that I take down unless I am using it. If you need aged water when you get something, take water out of your main tank and fill the QT. This way you get a water change on the main tank and have the QT set up. Win win I say.

I also have my frag QT tank on its own complete system if i were to get a nasty parasite ( or aptasia ) from somewhere,
I would rather have to deal with it in my qt and not my DT !
Why don't you just do what I did Riley?,....
1-DT
1- frag QT
1-Fowlr
1- hospital tank.
And who knows, you probably won't even get in as much crap as I have! :)

at least 4 tanks maybe even a few more. the more the better ;)

You need separate tank for SPS then LPS and Large fish, Small fish and invert tank as well as a seahorse tank. and a Hospital tank for each and frag for different types of corals and their needs

I lost about 160 lbs 13 years ago and 60% of my stuff and have never been happier. I have been able to do exactly what I want, when I want, when ever I want and no one questions my outlandish purchases.

When I was young my mother told me what to do, then it was girlfriends, then wife (was 22 she was 19) I was 25 before I woke up one morning and looked around and said can I do 30 -40 more years of this?
