i just bought one brand new one yesterday. The other unit had a new dry side installed a few months ago and i just purchased and installed a new wetside today so its all new. May need a couple weeks to gum up and quiet up a bit but they definately will never be silent. Granted if other stuff in your tank makes noises you wont hear them as much.

I finally got my "new to me" mp40 running and it is pretty silent at regular operation, however when it is dialed in at full speed it does make a whining sound. I think its an opportunity cost with these things. They actually work better than I anticipated, too bad their so expensive!

in wave mode (when they rapidly ramp up and down) they are loud. In the constant speed or slow ramp up modes they arent noticeable.

In order to get the tunze wavebox wave they will get loud.

I didn't see the wavebox, but I thought I heard one.  I just saw 2 tunze powerheads which looked like they were running in wave mode.

His tank is an inspiration.  I was toying with going to a new tank fairly soon, but now I think I'll focus on getting my coral growing, and swapping pieces until I have the mix I want.  Anyone serious about sps needs to see a setup like his.  It was almost fake looking it was so nice.  I am shamed by my tank now. However, I'd best figure out what I'm going to do about powerheads....that is my last big purchase on the tank at this point.

i seen blobs wavemaker box  and i was at IA today and that tank bill has on the side has a wavemaker    he has some algea  stuck to the wavemaker box in front of the powerhead  yu can see it working and then i looked and seen a rolling wave    it goes like pooob.....pooob.....pooob ......pooob

Ya my flow is two older style tunze 6100 (one is 5yrs old and running strong, cleaned only once a year) and a tunze wavebox in the corner.  Love the wave box...dont think I could be with out one again, they just get everything moving.

I had my mp10 @ level 1 green, and now it's @ level 4-5.

hopefully it help's, the only reason I had it low at first is because I was trying to get a lagoon mode going, which lead to a lot of detritus build up.

this time I am sacrificing my loosely attached polyps for the better of the rest of my coral's health.

it's hard to see yuma's fold up on one side of the rock, so I am hoping they adapt, I adjusted the pump to the point where they barely fold up.

Sometimes when you up the flow it seems like some lps or softies are pissed but they can adapt mostly and the tank will be healthier in general.  Of course this is with in reason because you dont want to blast certain corals bit if the flow is in direct you would be surprised at what some lps and softies will take.

I really need to take a risk, I'm going to slowly get them use to more flow.

I have a weird way of thinking, in where I think that since the mushroom is huge with no/low flow, that, that is where it should be. After reading this article I tend to think otherwise.
