So i wake up this morning around 7 730 to do my morning routine lol, to step out of my bed onto my area rug completely soaked!! Apparently i fell asleep with my RODI running into my 5g culligans which overflowed into my emerg 20g catch bucket and the  continued to overflow onto my floor and just soak everything.
..wow just livid, especially as im not a morning person to begin with.. i believe i woke up m9st of my house screaming nd yelling lol..so question, is the any way i can stop this from happening again besides making sure i dont fall asleep. Right now its running to my room to a shut off tap.  Almost need somesort of float valve set up but not sre if thatd even work for the way im set up...ITS TO HOT FOR THIS SH!T!!! Lol

Haha yea a float valve would do the trick.. Don't cost much at all

I have one just don't know how id rig it up? Cuz the hose in my room just hit a turn off valve with a piece of hose to drop into my containers?  Wouldnt i need the flot in the container that is being filled to work?

just turn it on when yur awake and need water instead of leaving on all the time.

You're better off to set up a float valve and solenoid valve to the RO unit and have it fill something larger like a 20-30gal drum. Then just scoop out what you need. The float valve will keep the container topped up.

You can even drop a small power head and heater in the 20-30gal drum. That way the water you're taking out of it is the same temp at your tank.

Most who have a fish room have something similar to this for top ups and water changes.

That makes the most sense.

Even float valves can fail though - I run my RO/DI to a 20 gallon Brute container with float valve and recently it became pooched.  No big deal though, the container is in my laundry room literally right beside the floor drain, so just overflowed directly into that.  To be completely fail safe, you'd want some kind of overflow leading to a drain, same as with your sink or tub.

Any possible way of hooking up a pump to push the water upstairs from the basement for you? Might be a little work to get it setup but 100000000% more peace of mind if it every overflowed again...

There are auto shut off systems available for RO/DI systems. Spectrapure makes one for their units. Sure it could fail, but in most instances the auto shut off is a back up to your own diligence, and not the other way around.

I used to keep my jugs in the laundry sink so when they overflow, it goes down the drain, as painful as that is. But then you are carrying water. Your best bet is a good float valve. The cheap ones can fail or arm break, then water everywhere again.

If you're going to keep doing it the way you've been doing it.  Why don't you run to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a water leak detector.  They're like $10.  Set the sensor down beside your pail.  When it overflows and sets the alarm off.  You'll hear it!  Trust me.  You won't sleep through that if you're in the same room or even the same floor.

$10 solution and it doesn't change a thing from what you're doing.

Thats a good idea actually lol ill do that.

Play around with it. I had to put some tape on the one I used. It was just too bloody loud, and it sounds like the smoke detector. Yes it works, but then you have a 12 year old, and your wife giving you dirty looks at 3am..... :) I toned it down, now the wife just wakes me if it goes off (which is never now, I only have the RO on when I am awake, 2 failed switches, and one failed auto shut off later.....)

They usually just have two metal pins and if water or something (moisture) connects them, then he alarm goes off
