Hey guys an gals, I just mixed up a fresh batch of saltwater last night I go to check this morning and I've got what looks to be like pieces of sand in the water, almost like all the salt never mixed fully,or somehow calcified.... my salt was IO, the salt was a little rocked up but not bad by any means, I made sure it was nice an broke up into sand form when I added it, and now I have this problem!!, can anybody chime in here, this will suck of I have to dump that much water!!!, thx everyone,, Sean

Thx Eric in going to do that right now, any ideas to what it could be, 20 gallons of saltwater with what looks like a cup or so of sandy flakes..well maybe not that much but still enough to cloud the water good

sounds like something precipitated out, alk, ca or both, do you use a pump to mix it.

A maxi jet 400, and I mean I mix my salt pretty slowly too, I not to sure I also see a layer of what looks like tiny little white flakes on the surface of the water...

I agree with Pistol. Could be something falling out of solution. This sometimes can be caused by adding too much salt too quickly.

Do you run an air stone in the mixing container too? I find that helps a lot to stabilize the mixture. Especially PH.

Also, if it was 'rocked' as you mentioned, it could have solidified parts of the mixture. Not a lot of caffeine in my system right now, so that could just be crazy talking.

I thought so to, only thing that's low is the calcium, like normal!!!. Salinity is at1.024, where I usually have it, I gradually added salt to my water like normal, air stone running water at temp I want... I'm not going to take any risks id rather toss 10$ in salt water than toss 100'S$$ in coral!!!
