i think they are hard to keep or something.. i lost mine after a few months too.. but all other euphilia corals all looked great with no issues.. its weird because i have seen some success stories on here where they seem to be doing really well.. but there are alot of stories like ours where the yellow torch specifically kinda just starts to receed.. and then die... i dunno i liked me but they take up alot of room..

I know there are quite a few frags out there now, and for the most part I have not heard of many receding for no reason...but always a possibility when playing with the ocean. I think cleanness of water has a factor. All these no nitrate no phosphate people might have a hard time keeping nutrient levels where the torch would like. Also I can almost guarentee more then 80% of the frags out there are in TOO much light.

Sorry to hear yours isn't doing so well Brian. How long have you had it now? And let's see a picture.

I keep mine under 8 t5, and it looks fantastic, recently I've got more extension on my gold torch and it looks great. So I'm not sure about the too much light.

Majority of torches will get longer tentactales/more flowy when they are reaching for light.

Is there any slime/jelly on any of the heads?

I've had mine about a month and finally found a good spot for it, close to the bottom and lower flow. I love it definitely a beauty.

I went threw 2 from Bigshow, one I had it in decent flow and my clown pair hosted it about a week in, woke up to them shaking there asses on a closed torch just ripping it up, flesh floating in tank :(

Second frag was larger and I said no clowns in same tank, well it blew over onto a Acan Echinata colony that was sold to spyd now...as it turned that torch into mush in less then an hour.

I kept 2 frags for myself to sell at a later date and both are still alive and thriving.  One I recently shipped to Vancouver and the other I still have (until I get home and gets shipped to Vancouver).

Do you guys broadcast feed your tank? Quite possible they are being starved.

ahh.. true.. i've seen yours pat and its nice..

Bigshow, i dont know what happened but i have seen the same thing happen on the other forums fairly regularly too, i think these ones just are a bit harder to keep than the standard green torch corals.. it very well could be too clean of water but i doubt it in my case since i dont think mines all that clean and i feed the crap out of it. They dont really look much like the standard green torch corals, do you think they could be a different species? or could it be lighting? you and pat are both running full T5's so maybe thats it.. theres too many variables at play to really know why i guess and i have no room for one these days so maybe ill try another one day in a bigger tank... crazy how time flies tho.. it wasnt that long ago 1/3 of my tank was dedicated to eupyhlia corals. i even had the yellow spawn for me one day.

Hey Duke,

I agree with the higher mortality rate with the Aussie Gold Torch, it is much higher then the other more commonly kept indo pieces.  I keep all my torch frags in my FT and they get well over 300 par, they also don't get a tonne of flow.  Agreed, there are a lot of other variables at play as well.

I do broadcast feed the sh*t out of my tanks, and I do notice a feeding response when I put food in the tank.

If I have 2 lights on my torch is small ... 8 bulbs on it gets 4x the size. Some how I think less light doesn't docs thing. I've left just 2 lights on my tank for a couple weeks and my torch looked like shit

Interesting Pat.  I think your right about them wanting quite a bit of light.  In my FT they don't have those stubby tentacles (or whatever they are called).  I think they do like a decent amount of light.

I have mine on the sand bed and run led. It's been doing great and during the day has long flowing tentacles. I picked it up from jerry about 4-5 months ago. It also get a good amount of random flow. I use the else mode I'm my wp40s so it gets a blast then a break and so on.
