i do!

came home late today after the lights were out and decided to take a peek in my tank... as i usually do when i get home.

i knew my bristleworms were long but i had no idea exactly how long as i've only ever seen them stick their heads out of a hole in the liverock.

well tonight they were right out in the open devouring a leftover piece of algae wafer that fell to the floor of my tank.  the biggest one must be at least 8 inches long!!!

im so glad those nasty fuckers cant survive out of saltwater!!! cant even leave my feet on the floor now i have the eeby jeabies lol.  anybody else fascinated by their worms?

thats a bristelworm...thank heavens for them :) gotta luv to hate em tho...those little effers come out when i feed my chalice and take the food right outta their mouths!! i poach em with a turkey baster lol!! but they are fantastic scavengers and keep my tank free of uneaten decaying food!

eucinid worms have distinctive 5 tentacles at their front end(head) and are more round than bristles...bristles are more flat(oval).

After Googling eucinids it looks like they are also black and have distinct segmentation.  These are more of a grey/beige/pinky colour.

They definitely do a good job of cleaning up any food that makes its way to the bottom!  Still super creepy though..

Very possible, I just thought because of the length, I always thought bristle worms to be alot shorter and the Eucinids alot longer

Aaaaaah gotcha.  I just about had a heart attack when I Googled them and found the Oregon Reef guy as one of the first results .  I'd seen his tank before and read about the worm but didn't take note of it's name.

http://www.oregonreef.com/ for those who have never seen it.  Amazing reef, ruined by a worm... an Eucinid it turned out... check out his Worm Incident page.

Your looks more of the bristle worm family.
I was losing the odd small fish a few years ago so I
feed the tank when the lights were out.  Then this fat long worm appeared!
I put a clear 1 1/4" x 22" long clear tubing with mess covering one end with food in it.
It slithered in to the food and stopped to eat. I poke the tail of it and in it went, then
it sprayed this reddish die?  Took it to Big Al's but Aaron didn't want ha ha and it was disposed of.

Yea someone's always got a bigger worm then you............. :)

I have a couple of green bristle worms in my 200gal that go from the front to the back of the 24" tank and around the corner, they have never done any harm to anything...other than my fingers when I've grabbed them while moving rocks.
