Recently I've been noticing red hairy substance on the sand bed, when I dig it out which isn't difficult it's clumped together in a red ball, it kinda looks like a worm. Any ideas, thank you.

Yes, that is what it looks like when I remove them from the tank. So are they harmful to my Corals and if so how do I get rid of them?

No they are beneficial and help eat particulate matter and some dissolved organics. They are harmless and a good addition to the bio diversity of the system.

You sure it's not red slime or dinoflagellates? Red slime definitely looks like red hair, although it wouldn't move like a worm at all if it was removed from water, it just looks like a lump of snot...

I thought you recently did a chemiclean treatment which is what you use to get rid of this type of algae, so I doubt it is cyano because you would know what that looks like or you would have used the chemiclean.

The light is a 4 Bulb T5HO Giesmann fixture that I've had for about 8 years. The Brain pic doesn't to it justice, the lighter shades are actually black and the green you almost toxic, but ya it's nice.
