Sick with what symptoms?? Copper is only effective against a very limited number of diseases and parasites.

e.g. copper is not effective against marine velvet parasites...Well it can be but at concentrations that are highly toxic to most ornamental fish...

What other fish or inverts do you have with him that could cause this type of damage?

The shredded tail tells me it was attacked. And got sick from the stress. I can't see a parasite causing this much damage in such little time

Does not sound good. transferring to someone else's qt tank will stress the fish out more. Good luck, sounds like he either got tangled with blacker ice clowns, we all know how aggressive clowns can be, or a powerhead.

Like Torx said. Transferring him to another members tank will definitely stress him out with the move and drive.

Any other symptoms on the other fish? Any anemones in the tank? Crabs or shrimp?

A FW dip will provide immediate relief from velvet by causing the parasites clogging the gills to drop off as they are external unlike ich which is under the skin. Copper will not affect the parasites living on the fish at concentrations that the fish can survive. It can prevent new populations from developing and hatching in fish only systems or in the QT tank but will not provide immediate relief. it is important to adjust the PH of the dip to match the tank water as closely as possible.

IMO 5 minute FW dip for immediate relief, then move to a treatment tank where you will have about three days before any new generations can develop at which point you will have had a chance to pick up some copper to prevent their development.

Once velvet symptoms are readily visible mortality is the most likely outcome...good luck... When you dip, if it is in fact velvet you will see the shed parasites in the bottom of the container.
