Add a tang or fox face to your tank add a sea hare it will help

IME tangs and fox face do not tend to go for green hair algae... The seahare does, yes, but given that most cleaner and nicer tanks don't have seahares, usually only the ones with GHA have a seahare.... Doesn't that tell you something?

The seahare took care of the gha and it hasn't come back (gha free for 3 months now).  I would say tanks without gha are the ones with seahares  :D

Finally got a test kit this weekend for po4. I've been running the GFO for a little over 3 weeks now, the po4 reading was .08. It appears the algae is dying off, it has turned mostly a dull green born colour and I was able to syphon a lot of it out last night. I'm cautiously optimistic that I may be winning the battle now ;) I'll post a progress video tonight, but thanks for all the help on here, you guys are awesome.

BTW, the po4 test kit is the H2Ocean, any thoughts on this one?

Thanks

Is it's the low range kit, keep us posted as to it's reliability and accuracy, ie, are the readings consistent, would be nice to compare it to a hanna checker.

Most of us use the hanna checkers for PO4, either the regular one or the phosphorous (low range) one.  I never even heard of the H2Ocean one

Thanks, I'll order new filters today.

On a side note, I have a Spectrpure 90-GPD RODI System, Any ideas other than spectrapure.com for ordering replacement parts?

Thanks

I know it's a little late now, but the last two times I got my filters from autotopoff.com.  They were really reasonable and the 75gpd membrane works well.  Might be worth a look for you

Here's a video from last night. You can see the colour of the algae has changed to brown, hopefully that means it's dying off. I syphoned more out last night. The GFO was changed last week so I am now running 1 cup of HC GFO. Phosphate tested at .08 on Sunday night, will test again on Thursday night.

It looks that you are on the good path. GFO running, test kit, and lot of enthusiasm. :)

0.08 is still high. Seeing the hair algae green at roots and brown at tips, tells me that it feeds from the rocks. Was the video filmed before or after algae removal? You should remove as much as you can, so brown algae that died is not going back into the system as nutrient. I used a hose syphoning into a sock in the sump, so I was not constrained by how much water/time I needed.

Also I would suggest, next time when you do the Phosphate checks, do one at the GFO reactor's output. You should see a lower value, hopefully close to zero.

Almost to forget: do you have any macro algae in the sump to compete with the hair algae?

Thanks Boga,
I'll try the syphon into the sump, I have been using a bucket and a pump, didn't even think how simple it would be to right into the sump!

No Macro algae in the sump, I'll look into that.
