So in my 40 gallon I have 2 paird clown fish I had for over a year and a half , is it a bad idea to add 1 or 2 more? There's the chance they would all get along ? And possible a scrap for the anemone ?

It is not very likely they will get along especially if it is the same species and they are not juvenile but adults. If you had more then one nem and it is a totally different species that looks different then your original or they are juvenile fish it possibly might work. You up the chances of success and acceptance if they are different or juvenile. Even then it depends on the original individual personality of the fish if they allow it or not. If the juvenile do start to grow and they are the same species then you could and probably will see fighting. If you had dropped them all in at once it would have had a better chance of success of acceptance.

My female tomato would never allow another pair of the same sp into my tank and she would and has killed them on sight.

my female tomato clown was nasty ! lost her, but the male is very timid, no problems with him in the tank with others ! I think it depends on the individual clowns

Ya my female is not all hugs and kisses like the male is. Mine is old and she has killed three male mates over the years. :'(
If you stick to the steps above it does increase the chances to succeed but really in the end it can boil down to the individual fish if they will or not.

Well the BRS videos feature a clownfish harem tank 30 of them

Funny I was thinking about something like this last night. Well for a couple month actually because clowns are bullet proof like stated and softies are easier to keep and prefer a dirtier tank

I agree with Heath. Why take a chance on one or both of the new additions being bullied or worse?

A pair of occs came with the used tank I started with. I didn't know what I didn't know at that time. So I bought a beautiful pair of black clowns to add to my 75g tank. By then, there were at least 4 btas in the tank to share. But the blacks were immediately picked on by the established occs pair. I read up on it and found that 2 pairs of clowns, especially 2 pairs in that size tank, had very little chance of getting along. (They are damsels, after all! Lol) So I gave them back before something ugly happened.

No regrets, the fish in my tank all get along. That's my goal.....
