After establishing your tank and picking out your community of fish. How long have you kept one alive? What species was it and if you get rid of your fish frequently why?

Just curious on how everyone keeps there fish.

Thanks

I'm new to salt so am curious. I believe that after you get the hang of salt and a mature tank keeping fish should really be a problem. But trading them off to other hobbyist must be more of a hassle than in fresh where they have clubs and semi annual auctions both great places to sell fish and change things up if desired.

I tend on getting fish and keeping them for a long time. But I'm over the multi tank syndrome.

Clowns for me would have been longest. They were around 2 years in my system. Bought from another hobbiest on here when I first got into hobby so not sure on exact age. I lost the female to some sort of mishap, tried buying another to pair but there was always bullying, so I sold both seperate and bought 2 tiny ones to limit fighting.

Other then that I had a unicorn tang that I had for just over a year that outgrew my system and was sold to a guy in town with a 700 gallon fish only system.

I have an Occelaris clown that is over 20, lived through a number of tank changes, moves, crashes... I think the Sohal was almost 9 when I passed him on to live in Big Show's beautiful monster tank.

My Copperband is almost 5 now.

It's still cruising strong, seen it yesterday.

Black Tang is 9 years old with me and I bought him from another hobbyist. Likely around the 12 year mark. Lots of others around the 4 year mark (borb anthia, bartlett anthia, Clarion Angel)

My oldest fish is a Spotted Garden Eel. I got him early in 2010 when I was told by the fish store that he was a good companion for my seahorses (NOT). He sparked the need for a Reef Tank when all of my seahorses died and I was told by people more knowledgeable about seahorses that he wasn't suitable. He is still going strong in my Reef tank.
I keep all of my fish when I get them so I research and make sure they will not outgrow the tank I have. Many times I have wanted to get some of the other fish that will outgrow my tank but the thoughts of giving them up later stops me from purchasing them.

I tend to get attached to the stupid things as well. I find they have personalities and they don't bark, crap on the rug or ruin the furniture. I can also go away for a week without a worry. They don't make my allergies flare up
