How To Attach Frags To Live Rock?

Okay, I have a confession to make. I have a heck of a time getting frags attached to live rock.
I've tried the dollars store thick glue
I've tried the expensive eco tech glue
I've tried two different versions of the putty

I have never had much success. The putty doesn't want to stick to the frag/coral and the live rock is slimy and the putty works about 50% of the time. Then a snail or crab knocks the fing frag off, or a powerful water change.

The glue is a different story, I usually have my fingers stuck together and glue all over the place. Ruined jeans, track pants, shorts with the stuff. I figured latex gloves would be the trick. But I find glue likes to bond to them.

I have no idea how anyone gets a gooey zoa or Duncan that slimed up attached?

Let me in on the tricks please...

I was thinking maybe just drilling holes all over my live rock the size of frag plug stems and then I can just Lego them where I want them

This is what I use, it's a thick gel but not a thick as a putty. Works perfectly. I've tried a lot of other also and this works better then anything else I've used

The holes works but then an urchin will still pick them up and put them on his head. Trick to gluing fresh cut Frags is to let them heal for a few days in a small floating or sunk jar, low flow zone with just a bit of rubble in the bottom so they can attach naturally then pick them up and glue all that to a frag plug. Now if your having problems sticking a frag plug to rock, take a toothbrush and scrub the bottom of the plug and the spot you want it to stick, a little puddle of glue on the plug, blow it so that the surface cures a little, should turn white, then reach in and push it down. Let it sit without power heads on it for 5 mins and go

I'm don't with urchins, I learned my lesson.

I will certainly take your advice. I have some time before I'll be moving and attaching everything in the new tank. I'm finally finished the cycle and did a 20% water change. I figure by April I'll be ready for the fest.

Where do you get this stuff ? I find when you submerse the glue it creates a shell pretty quick. But the tooth brush trick should help the bonding

wasn't there a thread a long while back about making a sandwich sort of affair with the putty and gel glue? putty / glue / putty - frag plug and pressure that someone said worked every time? I have some holes drilled in some of my rock but it looks like I may have an urchin issue LOL will wait and see if that happens, hoping not, I'm enjoying the urchin, have always loved them.

I use both the putty and super glue.
Take a small amount of putty like the size of a pea. Mix it up. Then add a dab of superglue to the putty and push it onto the frag plug. Then I use a toothbrush and clean the area of live rock off. Then add another dab of superglue to the other side of the putty that's already attached to the frag. Push and hold it to the live rock for about 15-30seconds. And done

Lepage super glue gel is my go to. I've even stuck the bottle right in the tank and used it submersed.

Just a note, before gluing the frag to the rock...depending...you may need to scrub a small spot on the rock to clear it off.
