How To Reboot Tank?

I have a problem. I some how picked up some razor caulerpa. I have tried almost everything I could find on the Internet to get rid of it. I don't think this can be done.

How do I proceed and start over?

I throw the live rock out.
Throw the sand out
Clean the entire tank with Hydrogen peroxide
Then recycle the tank with cured known pest free live rock ?


Will the Marinepure media be any good or do I chuck it as well?

FOXFACE....that is if your tank is large enough

Not large enough to keep one full time. But if it would clean up the rock and I wouldn't get the stuff back I would get a small one temporarily and then sell him cheap.

Cannot guarantee it wouldn't come back, as it goes into a spore stage when no lights. Only way to keep it from exploding is 24/7 light.

Yep the best solution I can think of is tear it down and rebuild.

you could try a UV sterilizer for the spores and a foxface for the plant.

I think those of us with older mature systems don't think of restarting as an option other than a last resort...where if it is a fairly new system you have little to lose and it can save a lot of time and effort.

Personally, I have never found Caulerpa that hard to deal with even in high nutrient tanks. Are you convinced that it is a problem itself and not really a symptom of other issues?

Well it could very well be a symptom of another issue. I'm pretty new to salt. This is my first tank of salt in 20 years, so like noob.
I have done fresh around 30 years but no comparison to salt.
I have my lights on way too long 12 hours a day. I'm going to solve that issue soon. I do 5 gallon water change every week and have ghost skimmer (almost impossible to dial in) have had it 8 months on the tank and the tank has been running for 9 months.
Feed every second to third day and really small amounts or target feeding.

I have salifert ammonia and nitrate, nitrite test kits and the readings always appear to be in the correct range.

I use Marinepure and chemipure (change every three months) and filter floss change every other week.

Set me straight people, I'm wiling to learn

Pretty sure it was the new light. Sounds weird right, but after getting the new light I did a few things. 1 I pulled some of the stuff before every water change but I always did that. 2 I added the rest of my marine pure spheres to the sump. 3 had 1 emerald crab added two more. 4 added 5 Ninja stars.

But really I upgraded the light and had a different schedule and intensity was about 90 % of the fix. Everything else I did was kind of after the algae was in recession. I still have some so it's not completely gone but about 90% gone.

I also added chaeto to the sump, and other snails and a bag of active carbon.

If it wasn't for unibob and all his great products and deals. I would still be battling the stuff. He's the hero we deserve!
