Hey guys/gals


I am finally running out of socks and I don't wanna buy anymore lol ,...

cleaning them .... I am really nervous with using bleech ...
But I did it ...
1) put socks in bucket with ro water and bleech, let sit for 24hrs
2) rise socks
3) let socks dry...

my understanding is that withing 24 after the socks dry, its suppose to disappear the bleech that is ... am I correct in understand this ...

I clean mine best I can with hose then soak mine in bleach and regular tap water for a couple weeks when I'm down to the last one they go into washing machine on a hot cycle. Then just toss them onto a shelf to air dry.

Just run them in a rise cycle in the washer. Let them dry then reuse them. [emoji1]

Yes the bleach evaporates, let them soak 48 hours in tap water with a little bleach, say a shot glass full, then rinse well with tap water and let soak in tap water with a little Prime or other tap water conditioner for 24 hours and let dry then use.

You don't need to add detergent, could use bleach in the cycle if you wanted. But yes it does evaporate.

A good question. I have heard people saying they run the wash machine empty once before they put the socks in. Is that a must? Or just people being overly cautious? Seems like a waste of water...

I turn mine inside out, scrub them really good until the water runs clean,, then soak them in a hot tap water and bleach solution.. I dry mine outside and the beach dissipates...

What's the safest way to clean an aquarium ?Vinegar and water well also vinegar neutralizes bleach bleach then soak in vinegar and r/o then rinse in pure r/o you will not have any chance of harming your tank this way incase all that bleach did not evaporate

You can but it would prolly be cheaper to buy some prime and use tap water, the prime will detoxify the tap water of chlorine, ammonia, heavy metals, etc. I've been doing it this way for 5 years without any trouble.

Any chlorine based product does what is called "out-gassing" within 24hrs.
Circulating the water will quicken the process.
And no sense wasting RO water on your bleach soak there Bigreefer, save it for your rinse before setting to air dry bud.

I'm the same man. Don't worry, it's not just you. SO much time and money in, you don't want to make a stupid mistake. I think there was another post about this. I double rinse my laundry machine, then run a bleach cycle with my socks. Then triple rinse that. Socks come out almost dry. Let them sit a day or so, and then use them. Been doing this for about 3 months no with no problems that I've found. Set of socks last about a week or so before changing is needed.

No not afraid of residue. I wash on a hot water cycle with no detergent. No concerns at all about using them on the tank after they dry off.
