No idea about the mating. They were just added last night. Will be interesting to see what they do. I am not all that concerned about spawning, but it would be nice.

Well from all that I have read at this point is that you should get 3 or more. So far they are playing nice, i will watch for any aggression between them and move if needed, but so far they are doing great. Thanks for the warning.

They are likely juveniles still, so will play nice for a bit.  The get 3 or 4 is a statistical thing to ensure that you will get a  pair (odds of 1 M and 1 F in 3 is reasonable) but once the pair sets the "odd man out" should be removed.

Not trying to rain on your parade.  I bred these for a few years a while ago.

not to highjack this thread, but i have a pair i've had for 6 months or so now, they dont fight and hang out together. they were both close to the same size when i got them now theres one thats grown a bit more and is darker and one thats about the same as when i got them, i've heard you cant really sex them without having a proven male, what do you think? if i posted pictures could you tell?

It is my understanding that the male has a more pronounced jaw, since the males are mouth-broaders

There is no sure fire way to sex them but I am pretty good at it.  Post pics (2 of each fish, one face on, other a profile pic (post in a new thread though)
