Okay, I am at a cross roads, start over or keep what I have and try to fix the wrongs.

If you were to start over, what are your must haves', mine are;

- much larger tank
- plumbed to basement or another room for easy monitoring and water changes
- controllers, controllers, controllers...
- auto everything possible
- more outlets, hidden wiring and plumbing
- many things i can not think of, but I am sure I will after I have put in my next setup

I dont have any of these so where to begin.

What do the controllers actually do and can they be setup to dose the required additives when low, or do they just let you know it is not right and what is a good controller to start with.  I cant change my space requirements without starting over so I am think to go with a controller and monitor for now.

Controllers and monitors are bottom on my list of ways to make it easier to run a reef tank.  Controllers will mostly act as timers, but also do things like monitor pH, and ORP and temperature contoller, ah and you can get them to do the auto top off.  Personally I dont bother monitoring pH or ORP and use regular timers.  For temperature control I use an industrial ranco temperature controller.  For auto top up I recommend www.autotopoff.com

Controllers are good for monitoring things remotely and some automation but they arent all what some claim or think.
