I take care of a Ladies tank here ..she just bought a bucket of io salt (against my advice.. but she says its cheap)..and here is why I hate io.... these are hard salt rocks and I do mean hard not just settled and it was not just the top it was threw out the mix

My question is what bonded... I threw the chunks out but ... is the balance off now.. pics and an email to io where sent.... we'll see what happens but the point is what has been taken out of the mix now.

all i use is io reef crystals and have not once had that.... i also avoid the pails and get the boxes they come with 3 or 4 individual bags and you get 75 extra gallons compared to the bucket for the same price. i find it mixes great and works great despite how alot of people dislike it. hot to cold temp swings can condense the moisture in the air as well so that bucket may have been sitting a long while before purchase

+1 I only use IO as well....but I only buy the boxes. Apparently with the pails, you have to mix it every so often.

I forgot to seal a lid on a bucket of mine.... it wall turned rock hard... I turned the bucket upside down and it was like a sand castle.... Its jus the moisture in the air.

Anyways I smashed the block and tossed the hard pieces into the water mixing barrel... works just fine... breaks up fast

no worries at all for me.... I even contemplated making molds of the same amount of salt I use every time and make myself salt blocks... no more measureing just fill the barrel and toss in a salt block :)

Whenever I have that problem get the wife's panty hose and put a cup of rice in it and it will take the moisture right out of it. That's why you sometimes see rice in salt shakers to keep it loose and free of moisture
