Same. I also tried  a few different things, all of them leeching eventually. Switched to an aquarium.

I got the green garbage cart on wheels from lowes  its 12 gallon.  Says food grade ..illl full it with 0 tds water and test it with the tds pen    But in 2 days its gone up to 6 tds ..if i full my 5 gallon culligan jugs the same day. My jugs are 0 tds  In one week the wheel cart is 16 the jug is still 0 ..so i just get my new water change in the cart and made up in less then 24 hrs

If its not potable ( food grade ) then it will leach and creat a headache for you later. I would just use a glass tank, anything that will work plastic wise will be crazy expensive. If you want to check something out go to TSC on the golden mile, they have the white plastic containers outback those would work, but for a 25 gallon container they wanted $175.

For ato, take my word for it and don't do anything over 10g.... Safety sake.,, if something happens, ( all goes into tank at once) worst case scenario / your tank is fine....
BUT
30g of fresh water would not only cause flooding, but serious salinity issues.
