My understanding is the hookers died after being electrocuted in Glenn's sump. God have mercy on the man brave enough to reach into that's rat's nest.  Buy some zip ties Glenn!

Hey, I just operate the removal service, I don't ask where they come from.  8)

Dam. We can use dead hookers in our tanks?
What a waste I've been just burying them all over the country for years.  Well, anyone want to do a group buy? I can run a few through the wood chipper this weekend and bottle it up for you.

dont know what to tell ya yet salty, bill says they are doing exactly what they advertised

http://www.orcalabs.co.za/?page_id=33

Is Bill using them in his show tank?

Looks like they still suggest a reactor.
No reactor needed..just put in the supplyed media bag and a airstone and done
In the link posted they noted a fluidized reactor... just wondering if this is preferrable.  You can put rowaphos and carbon in a bag and toss in your sump, but probably not going to perform as well compared to if they were in a reactor.

That's how I keep the dogs fed in summer.  It's tougher starting the chipper in winter.

To early to tell still..but it looks like already nitates and phos have dropped a point i was about  5 ppm nitate before and 1.5 phos..now 4 and almost undetectable...to early still .its only been a week  and half since i started, suppose to take 3 weeks before it really starts dropping .skimmer is pulling way more gunk now so i defintly see a improvment will keep updating

Ya these things are great bit of a pain keeping airstone in the right place so all  the media gets air and moves around but levels are now undetectable and i havnt had to clean my glass in 2 weeks which before i was foing every 3 days..only prob was i have lost some zoas probaly due to  levels dropping rapidly but other than that i am really impressed and happy with it. Definate improvment from using them

i think you should be good to go.. im not running these exact bio cubes but i am running bio-pellets and my macro algae has always done well even in my low nutrient system, my nitrates are 0 and last time i checked phosphate it was .02 PO4 on the phosphorus tester and always tests .00 with the phostphate one. One thing that doesnt grow good for me is chaeto, but that leafy calupera stuff does really well under 24hr lighting.

My chaeto isnt growing now.. and i have high nitrates... so im guessin my posphate is low... now im wonderin if thereis enough posphate for the biocube bacteria...i was thinking of going to a garden center and  adding some posphates to get my chaeto goin....

I've found my chaeto has a sweet spot for growth.  It stops growing or dies back if the nitrates get too high (too low hasn't been a "problem" for my system for many years  ;) ).  I always used caulerpa in the past and it will grow in a septic tank.

Just stop rinsing your frozen foods and you'll have lots of PO4.

Also not sure if its helped speed up the process or not but instead of using one air stone like instructions say i used my 3 port airpump and used 3 stones in the bag to maximize it. If anyone is starting the cubes soon just make sure u soak the cubes in freshwater for 24 hours like it says to do and put the bag near ur skimmer .skimmer did go crazy for a day which says is normal but ur skimmer gunk will for sure increase which is always a good sign

Went to Bill's to get some pellets and ended up leaving with some of these instead.

I made up a diy reactor for them tonight and will be putting them online tomorrow when they have finished soaking.  They look like the same type of material just "puffed" like polystyrene to increase surface area.  We'll see what they do for my old persistent nitrates.

No need for a reactor just use the supplied bag and a airstone ive read somewhwre were someone did a test on two tanks one using the bag and stone and other threw a reactor and the reactor actually destroyed the cubes and also took longer to remove no and phos.. but up to u

Oh I don't doubt it, but as advertised:
Easy & convenient use, no daily feedings or dosings, just add as directed and enjoy 4 to 6 months Nitrate free water

I use the pellets, didn't even top them up for more than a year and had 0 nitrates. Hey, I'm a total believer in pellets, I would welcome something that works even better, but not something that just gets used up quicker, if you see what I mean :)
i do see what you mean,i am in the same boat as far as my pellets go as well, but the switch from vodka to pellets i was also skeptical about the effectiveness of the pellets
I -hated- dosing vodka, it just seemed so redneck-y.  I was totally on the fence about pellets, but I can dump a dead hooker in the tank now and not see a spike in nitrate or phosphate so they must be doing something.
