Led Lighting. Can There Be Too Much?

Just curious if anyone has knowledge if there can be such a thing as too much light for a reef tank. It is for my 8 galon nano (15" deep) sps dominated with some LPS and some ricordia mushrooms. I am looking at a 70 W unit from ledzeal.com. dimmable so i dont have to ramp it full if it is too much.

IMHO, for an 8 gallon nano, I would suggest something...smaller. You will probably have to lift that way up or it will be too strong. Nanos look real nice with a Halo type light with gooseneck holder.

I agree you can have to much light but I think you would be fine with a 70 watt, And it's Dimmable like you say.

What about one of the smaller Kessils? They seem to be popular for nanos? I don't see a problem with 70w though if it's dimmeable.

Kessils are out of my price range. getting this unit for $200

If it's dimmable it will be fine as long as you resist the urge to crank the power up on them.

But it is a bit overkill for such a small tank. Too much light will burn your corals. So just keep the unit dialed back.

Ah ok, the Kessils are only $229 but after looking at the Ledzeal lights they seem like a more customizable option. I guess the great thing about dimmable is that you can always use them on a bigger tank at a later stage...

$229 for a kessil?? I've never seen that price! I always have seen $350+ for them. But Ya I really like this unit and I can dim it down. And Ya I can resell it for more later because it is a higher wattage or use it on an upgrade. The controller is $50 extra, anybody have thoughts on if it's worth it? I figure because it's just one light and I'm not tying multiples together I don't need it.

Larger light that is dimmable will work great for your set-up and allows future upgrade possibilities without having the extra expense of buying a new light fixture....as we tend to upgrade to larger set-ups

Kessils A150 models are $229 the 350 is way more... I plan to use one on my next cube build. The controllable Kessils of the same size are an extra $30 or so I think they are called a160's

The light your getting looks really sweet though and being able to run it at less than max will allow you to get the spectrum your looking for!

Ya I remember being interested in the 350 model which is like $350 or $400 or something. The A150 are the older model I think and I don't really like the look. This light I can customize the LED layout and get a nice full spectrum.

long as its dimmable with leds your okbecause you can turn it way down if needed.... i am running about 1.3-3w led per gal of water and have them around 75% for a reference on count
